Afternoon Tea at The Bingham | UK WEDDING BLOG

By Laura

Hello! Well it looks like we’ve seen the last of Summer and it’s time to start lighting those candles and get cosy again. You might have seen on our Instagram page that it was Afternoon Tea week from the 14th-20th August which sadly I couldn’t go to because I happened to be in Barcelona. The good news is, I got engaged while I was there and I’ll be filling the blog with my wedding journey so please do follow along! Thankfully, The Bingham in Richmond offered the opportunity to go and experience their Afternoon Tea once I got back and boy did it tick all the boxes.

Richmond is such a gorgeous part of London, particularly in the Summer when boats pass along the river and the parks are full of picnics so The Bingham is set in the most wonderful location to host a relaxed afternoon with your friends. I can’t imagine a more beautiful setting to enjoy some pre-wedding time with your bridal party and sometimes, as much as hen parties are a lot of fun, you just want a glass or two of champagne and a natter with your bride tribe so you can get excited about the wedding.

We went along on Bank Holiday Monday so Richmond was particularly buzzing and please do leave plenty of time to get there as there is no parking at the actual hotel but once we arrived we were greeted by some wonderful staff members who showed us to our table. The room where Afternoon Tea is served overlooks the river and there is a whole terrace of tables where, weather depending, you can sit and enjoy the boats and punters that go past.

Once seated, we were offered a glass of champagne each which, at 3.30pm on a bank holiday, I was not going to turn down anytime soon! Needless to say, it set the tone for the rest of the afternoon and I can completely see why The Bingham is a popular choice for brides to celebrate at as it has a super relaxed atmosphere. There was a whole selection of teas from Darjeeling to Peppermint which is always a welcome break from the usual English Breakfast. Fraser isn’t a tea drinker but the staff were more than happy to offer a selection of coffees available too.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw ‘salted caramel brownie’ on the menu and I instantly knew this was going to be right up my street. There were four choices of sandwich fillings and I was particularly impressed with the generosity of smoked salmon, all too often you find that you are given a sliver of salmon in your sandwich, but the Bingham didn’t hold back and I love that.

The scones were honestly some of the best I have had in a long, long time. They were still warm and so soft and fluffy in the middle with a choice of both a plain or raisin scone and I only wish I had room for 4 more because they were divine.

The sweet treats on the top tier of the stand had been staring at me the entire time so I couldn’t wait to dive right in. As I said before there was a salted caramel brownie that was gooey and just scrumptious along with a mini ruby chocolate cheesecake and a tropical profiterole. The Bingham also cater to any dietary requirements so not to worry if you or your group have allergies or intolerances.

The Bingham is an ideal location to host your bridal party to a quintessentially British afternoon and their Wedding Open Day is on Sunday 7th October 12pm – 4pm so do pop along!

{We were a guest of The Bingham but of course we only write about places we really love}
