There aren’t many makeup wearers that aren’t on an eternal quest for the perfect foundation (the amount of hits our foundation reviews get on SYGM is testament to this). Bare Minerals have long been a complexion-heavy brand who seem intent on creating an arsenal of contenders – but have they done it with new liquid foundation Bare Pro?

Bare Minerals are renowned for complexion, and especially foundation – I worked for the brand for about 6 years before I became a full time freelance MUA, and it was what most customers came in for, and how most people found the brand in the first place. When I started with them in 2009, there was one foundation – the Original mineral powder – and I remember being sworn to on many occasions there would never be a liquid. However, the landscape of makeup, and of retail, was a very different place back then, and of course times and technology change, and a few years ago, Bare Minerals’ first liquid Bare Skin arrived. Now, as I am no longer affiliated with the brand, I don’t mind saying that for me, it was a bit of a fail.  At the time a loyal Original user, I was still vehemently against the prospect of a liquid, and this was everything I didn’t want it to be – as a serum-based, slippery, glossy foundation – for me not the easiest to work with, with a tendency to move and gather, and it definately didn’t help my oily -combo skin.

However fast forward to Complexion Rescue, and my faith was restored in this beautiful hydrating skin tint, which is the perfect “day off” foundation – and works for everyone looking for an easy light coverage. Now Bare Minerals arrive at Bare Pro, the newest liquid foundation from BM – but is it a hit or a miss?

Before and Afters

What’s the Verdict?

Move over Bare Skin, all is forgiven – in my opinion Bare Pro is a great foundation. When I first felt it, I had some misgivings on the slightly waxy texture, but it does set and it certainly offers great longevity, as well as coverage which is full without being heavy, dewy without being shiny, hydrating without being overwhelming and super easy to apply. It’s a medium – full buildable base, with a blendable texture – for me this is a little like a more user-friendly Urban Decay All Nighter, but way more spreadable, doesn’t dry as quickly and without the mental amount of pigment. I didn’t buy the brush as I own hundreds, but I do like the look of it – any kind of flat top buffing brush is always my preference for this type of foundation. The shade range is extensive – it is quite trick to pick out a colour of the 30 so I’d highly recommend going to counter for a colour match.

If you are like a visible foundation which covers, is easy to use, doesn’t gather, and has a great staying power I honestly don’t think you can go wrong. It’s a modern matte but not totally flat, it kept my oil at bay and it feels comfortable on the skin. I will definitely be using this into Autumn, and I’m honestly struggling for negatives to say about this as I just really love it! It definitely ticks the boxes of the type of foundation I usually go for.

I’m wearing Light Natural 09

Pros – long lasting, great shade range, reasonable price {for high end}, good buildable coverage, pump applicator, full without cakiness

Cons – glass bottle on the heavy side for travel

Best for – coverage lovers, normal – oily skins
