The Perfect Minimoon

With over 77% of newlyweds now choosing to go away for less than the traditional fortnight for their honeymoon, minimoons are the ideal option for a romantic short escape when time or budget is limited.  After the hectic period of preparation and planning the wedding, the relaxing quality time a luxury break provides is the perfect way to start your married life together.

There’s no need to compromise on luxury or romance when choosing the location for your perfect minimoon and the UK offers a surprising variety of beautiful breaks. Although it’s hard to choose, here’s a taster of the choice of minimoon destinations Cottage Gems has to offer for 2017 each with something unique or special about them…

Escape to a Private Island…

Imagine waking the morning after the wedding to the sound of water lapping the shore of a private island. Accessible only by footbridge, cross over into a dream of a romantic break for just the two of you. Kingfishers, a luxury log cabin sits alone on the island and even comes with its own landing stage and rowing boat. Take to the water armed with champagne {provided on arrival along with the most beautiful fresh flowers} and a couple of glasses and discover the secret nooks and crannies of your own little paradise as you row around the island. Set within 35 acres of landscaped lakes, islands and woodland and not far from the stunning ancient cathedral city of Exeter there’s plenty to explore further afield too.

The cabin with it’s lake views from every window is a haven of peace and tranquillity. Once the evening draws in enjoy an intimate bbq, snuggle together in front of the wood burner or star gaze from the bubbles of your very own generously sized hot tub on the bedroom veranda… finish the night with romance and collapse into the squishy comfort of the super king size bed!

Antique Hunting in Lovejoy territory!

16 million viewers and six series followed the antics of Ian McShanes irresistibly lovable rogue Lovejoy, and you can follow in his footsteps too. Lovejoys, part of the stunning Belchamp Estate, close to the border between Essex and Suffolk, is on a development where this TV treasure was filmed. Have fun spotting locations and favourite scenes in and around Lovejoys where Lovejoy and his team wheeled and dealed, solved a mystery or two and got into the inevitable scrapes along the way! Be assured though that Lovejoys is so much more than TV history, not only is it in a beautiful rural location but this converted coach house is the epitome of romantic luxury living. From your arrival and the receipt of the most amazing welcome hamper (a veritable feast for the taste buds) to the beautiful decor and luxurious king size bed, every detail is perfect.

Spend time walking or cycling around this historic Estate discovering it’s valleys, brooks and footpaths or perhaps enjoy a game of tennis on the Belchamp Hall courts, bikes and all tennis equipment is of course provided. Outside the Estate pretty medieval villages and market towns offer all the antique shops (to browse and find your own treasure!) and cosy pubs offering delicious food you both could wish for.

Perfect for Two…

Perhaps the most traditional of choices, the cosy country cottage offers the perfect romantic setting to get away from it all and indulge in each other’s company after the big day. Mint Cottage is nestled within the heart of the picturesque village of Lavenham, regarded as the most perfectly preserved medieval village in England. A real treat for luxury lovers the cottage has every detail covered. Log fire, ‘step back in time’ atmosphere, an abundance of fresh flowers, and homemade cakes, fresh bread and treats all within easy strolling distance, just right for a late breakfast in the quintessentially English country garden… that is if you can bear to leave the four poster and the romance and comfort of the bedroom with its idyllic country views.

Bursting at the seams with beautiful historic buildings Lavenham is also an area of culinary excellence with fine dining and cosy gastro pubs to farm shops and pretty tea rooms offering local delicacies. This part of Suffolk offers a wealth of stately homes, gardens, churches and National Trust properties to get lost in and perhaps even create your own Darcy and Miss Bennet moments!

Whatever you choose, your minimoon will be a break the two of you will remember for a lifetime… make memories, share adventures and live happily ever after ♥

This is a collaborative post with Cottage Gems, as per usual if we didn’t feel they were a fit for SYGM they would not be on the blog!
