Afternoon all! I hope your Tuesday is going well so far? Choosing a photographer can be hard, it is a large portion of your budget going on something that quite honestly, we don’t know that much about. We know what we like and what we don’t like and thats kind of where it stops. Working within the industry I have learnt so much about the skill of capturing weddings, but when I was planning I knew nothing. It can be hard searching the internet for someone you are going to entrust the task of capturing one of the most treasured days of your life, but that is where wedding blogs help! Today we have Sandy from Love In Focus on the blog, I didn’t want this to be a “look at my work” type post, I wanted us to get to know the man behind the lens a bit more.
My name is Sandy and I’m a wedding photographer in Bristol. I’ve been taking pictures of people since I discovered photography 14 years ago during my degree. I actually studied animation and moving image (that’s the fancy name for film making) but did a couple of modules of photography because I thought it looked fun. I was right and I really got into photography from those modules (probably helped by the fact that one of them I did while on a student exchange to Thailand!) but I kept it just as a hobby for years.
5 or 6 years ago I was getting fed up of my old job and was thinking about what I might do instead. I had shot a few weddings for friends and family just as favours and people had always been very complimentary of my work so I thought I’d give it a go doing this professionally. I went full time in 2012 and I’ve never looked back!
I love weddings, I get to work with people on the happiest day of their lives and create beautiful images that capture how they feel about each other. I’m not really into overly posed shots, I know some people love that but for me it’s more about trying to show who you are and how you feel about each other and I think that a more hands off approach makes that easier to achieve.
My favourite kind of weddings are the ones where you can really see that the couple have put themselves into the day. Little touches that really mean something to them make a wedding feel extra special, plus I love shooting details!
Whilst Sandy is a wedding photographer based in Bristol he covers the UK so if you are still looking for your photographer then check out the website for more images and further information on his process.
