Hello! Rebecca here, longg time no speak. It’s been a busy summer for me house renovating but I haven’t forgotten about you. In fact we have some very exciting honeymoon inspiration posts coming up over the next few weeks. All will be revealed shortly. But in the meantime I’m going to pass you over to Mr & Mrs Smith today for some very glamorous date night ideas across the globe. If there’s anybody that knows romance, it’s Mr & Mrs Smith and ass the nights draw in, these all look super sultry and cosy. There’s also the chance to win £1000 in honeymoon vouchers by voting for your favourites in their 2016 hotel awards.

Whether it’s a special occasion with your other half, a long-awaited night away with your loved one or you’re dressing to impress with the girl, or guy, of your dreams, there’s no place better than a sultry little hideaway with a list of quirky cocktails to tickle your tastebuds and divulge in your desires. Where the music is whimsical, the bartender is charming and the house signature is your new favourite guilty pleasure, these bars come with conveniently placed upstairs rooms to take the after party. The Smith Awards’ Best Date-Night Bar is the definitive guide to the most deluxe drinking dens you would want to be taken on a date.

The Yard Milano, Milan, Italy

Eccentricity is the name of the game at The Yard. Totter across checkerboard floors to one of two dynamic dens, be it the Doping Club, where bearded ‘alchemists’ will administer your ‘dose’ with the tickle of theatrical mixology, or the Duke Bar, styled to perfection by none other than Ralph Lauren. Expect a stylish ensemble to turn up come sundown to this buffalo check and killim rug-kitted out watering hole where you can make use of the backgammon set or play on a vintage arcade machine. Should conversation flow particularly well over delicious super-strong negronis or rum-laced Bergamundi Collins, head upstairs to The Maisons, the sleek apartment-style rooms with a Mad Men mood. For a dapper city break where you’ll feel like waxing your moustache and slinking into the bar to stir your favourite cocktail like a vintage James Bond, there’s no place better for a retro rondezvous in the heart of Milan.

Rates: Double rooms from £186.31 (€217), excluding tax at 10 per cent. Please note the hotel charges an additional local city tax of €5.00 per person per night on check-out. Rates include a Continental breakfast basket for each guest, filled with pastries, home-baked breads, muesli, biscuits, yoghurt and fruit.

Hotel Providence Paris, Paris, France

This charming little bar is petite Parisian perfection for those late-night, date-night soirées. For warm summer nights, the informal brasserie spills out into the bustle of the street below where Paris’s coolest neighbourhood sits right on your doorstep. But for a, dare we say, more romantic setting, head inside to the elegant downstairs dining room and bar where florals, low-hanging lights and soignée portraiture awaits you and your companion. A hotel dreamt up by bar magnate Pierre Moussi, there can’t be a better choice in Paris to keep company with the arty crowd in Beaubourg, or the residents of chic Canal St Martin. When midnight finally arrives, if you can bear to part from the elegance of the mood-lit bar, take the after-party upstairs to shake up your own tipples behind your very own marble-topped bar in your eccentrically-decorated room whilst taking in the views of the city of love.

Rates: Double rooms from £126.29 (€147), excluding tax at 10 per cent. Please note the hotel charges an additional local city tax of €2.48 per person per night on check-out. Rates usually exclude breakfast (€10 for Parisian breakfast of one hot drink, one juice and a pastry, or €18 for a Continental breakfast buffet, including cheese and meat platters, muesli, pastries, eggs, juices, coffee and tea).

Hôtel Americano, New York, United States

Behind the gleaming façade of Hôtel Americano, lies the stylishly modern Lobby Bar, open to cater to your date-night desires until midnight with a truly enticing array of European beers and other tasty tipples to tickle your tastebuds. After a long day of exploring the art district’s quirky High Line, soaking up the sun on the rooftop pool or exploring Chelsea’s galleries, the city’s fashion in-crowd come to Americano to relax in the statement-striking architecture of the quirky downtown hotel. An upbeat musical soundtrack will accompany you in the bar until late into the evening, when the city that never sleeps truly comes to life. Take the party outside to Chelsea or the trendy West Village should you fancy adopting the ethos of the Big Apple, but should you wish to succumb to the night, a sleek Mexican-Japanese come Manhatten modern room with views over trendy Chelsea is waiting for your company.

Rates: Double rooms from £242.05 ($315), excluding tax at 14.75 per cent. Please note the hotel charges an additional local city tax of $3.50 per room per night on check-out. Rates exclude Continental breakfast (from $15).

Fasano São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil

Searching for your perfect date-night soundtrack doesn’t come easier than in the Baretto live jazz bar at Fasano São Paulo, renowned for its bossa nova and trendy setting. After your world class meal in a romantic Fasano booth, sit back with a caipirinha in a green leather banquette to watch a whole array of traditional and noted performers take to the stage until 3am; Caetano Veloso, anyone? If you seek something a little quieter, the clubby lobby bar serves drinks until the clock strikes twelve. Though there’s plenty to keep you entertained during the daytime; think the fascinating bookstore Livraria da Vila, or one or two of the many museums just nearby, should you not wish to spend the evening exploring São Paulo’s swankiest neighbourhood on foot, it is hard to resist the call of your equally stylish room where you can explore enchanting vistas of the city from the skyline.

Rates: Double rooms from £345.79 ($450), excluding tax at 5 per cent. Please note the hotel charges an additional local city tax of $9.00 per room per night on check-out. Rates do not include breakfast.

The Zetter Townhouse Marylebone, London, United Kingdom

For the most stylish bar-come-restaurant in town, Seymour’s Parlour at the Zetter Townhouse Marylebone tops the list as the most inviting A-List cocktail lounge in London. Molecular mixologist master, Tony Conigliaro’s, bespoke cocktail menu entices the tongue to try his innovative libations, brewed specially at his Islington Drink Factory. Showstoppers include the inventive fir-tinged Vallais Fizz or the truly Instagram-worthy Rake. As a surefire testament to its high-demand exclusivity, Seymour’s is table-service only and seating comes in two-hour slots, so once inside, you’ll be sure to get cosy with your date in a chocolate-brown leather seat atop a wine-hued oriental rug beside the fireplace in this elusive yet warm and homey London hideaway, where decor is designed as a homage to Sir John Soane’s Museum. Once suitably subdued, your richly coloured bedroom awaits you, but not before you’ve taken a dip in the alfresco bath tub atop the private terrace, if you’ve booked the Lear’s Loft of course.

Rates: Double rooms from £225.00, excluding tax at 20 per cent. Rates generally exclude Continental breakfast, which is £14.

La Mamounia, Marrakech, Morocco

Each restaurant at La Mamounia has its own bar area as an accompaniment. Highlights include Le Bar Marocain, where views of the Atlas Mountains under the stars are the perfect backdrop to a romantic date. For a traditional Italian martini, it doesn’t come better than at Le Bar Italien, and for a picture perfect sunset soiree, the tiled courtyard provides an enchanting backdrop to enjoy a cognac, with the sound of trickling water fountains and the quiet hum of a Moroccan guitar. All deluxe rooms have a private terrace from which you can watch the world go by, but book a Suite or the Riad for more romantic in-room treats to share with your loved one. The Baldaquin Suite is our favourite, with a romantic cream and white expanse where a king-size bed is topped with gorgeous ruched fabric. Who could say no to tantilizing Moroccan champagne and fresh flowers?

Rates: Double rooms from £311.05 (MAD3,941), excluding tax at 10 per cent. Please note the hotel charges an additional local city tax of MAD49.50 per person per night on check-out. Rates do not include the lavish buffet breakfast of home-made jams and pastries, fresh fruit and juices, cured meats and fish, and hot dishes (Dh380 a person).

Aman Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan

City views don’t come much more stunning than this. Should you ever chose to leave your room, the Lounge by Aman offers equally serene views of the Imperial Palace Gardens from its floor-to-ceiling windows. Inside, with a design which mirrors that of the inside of a traditional shoji paper lantern, the soft glow of the lighting will have you yearning for another whiskey at the bar, accompanied by tranquil jazz. If so inclined, there is also a cigar lounge. For a truly tranquil end to a charming date night, slink off to your Suite, where views over the metropolis are begging to be gazed at from the privacy of your bathtub. Our favourite are the Corner Suites, where the panoramic views seemingly stretch for miles and miles, but the oversized volcanic-rock bathtubs are available in any of the rooms in Aman, each with a guide on how to properly perform a long hinoki, gembu-rock tub bathing ritual.

Rates: Double rooms from £638.81 (JPY85,000), excluding tax at 22.04 per cent. Please note the hotel charges an additional government tax of JPY200.00 per person per night on check-out. Rates for non-Smith members generally exclude breakfast (JPY4,746 traditional Japanese breakfast or an American-style breakfast with juice, yogurt, fruit and a choice of egg dishes.)

Hotel Zetta San Francisco, San Francisco, United States

This trendy hotspot plays host to the tech crowd during the day, and the after-work lot come sundown. It’s not hard to see why; the trendy lobby S&R Lounge comes with attached mezzanine Playroom complete with shuffleboard, pool or a choice of WiiU games. Choose from a range of innovative cocktails, wines and craft beers to sip on a sofa or hanging chair. Not your thing? The Cavalier’s room-length bar offers up a delectable array of gin, whiskey and rum cocktails. If you’re a member of the in-crowd, behind Cavalier you’ll find Marianne’s, a hush-hush lounge for the elite, though you’ll have to know the door code or befriend the right people to impress your date in here. Once you’re suitably wined and dined, head up to the Premier Studio King for a cosy sitting area to mull over the evening, and keep it going throughout the night.

Rates: Double rooms from £192.03 ($250), excluding tax at 16.45 per cent. Rates do not usually include breakfast; à la carte breakfast, from $11.

Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles, United States

Taking a modern spin on cocktail classics, the bar offers up a range of fruity and inviting libations for every pallet; think fresh peach bellinis, Plymouth gin Negronis and Ryka vodka, honey and fig puree inventions. Always perfectly poured and elegantly presented, these date-night drinks are sure to tickle your fancy and prepare you for an unforgettable evening. Retreat up to your Suite for a mini-apartment feel, or to the Premier or Two-Bedroom Suites for a large balcony or patio overlooking the pool. For the complete Hollywood Hills experience, go for Room 64 for a luxurious penthouse with a wraparound terrace. On your travels, keep a weather eye out for A-Listers as you while away the evening in this 1920s hotspot of historical hedonism.

The London Edition, London, United Kingdom

For a formal occasion, the gold-backlit bar in the dandy Berners Tavern is the perfect spot for a tipple with your other half. For a more casual evening, the lobby’s cool bar has a snooker table, sofas and wingback chairs huddled around the fire, accompanied by a smattering of art. The cocktail menu lists pun-worthy treats such as the Coco Pops flavoured Cereal Killer, or for a traditionally swanky London feel, head to the Punch Room, a psuedo-Victorian gentlemens’ club hidden away in secret, for that elusive, secret rendezvous feel. Once your thirst has been suitably quenched, the wood-lined, chalet-style rooms will entice you to a cool yet cosy bed. Designed by Yabu Pushelberg of Toronto, walnut panelling and crisp white linens will have you feeling toasty in the winter months, but check out the One-Bedroom Suite with Terrace for an intimate dinner overlooking the lit-up BT Tower, before heading downstairs to drink in the Capital’s A-List ambience.

Rates: Double rooms from £272.71, excluding tax at 20 per cent. Breakfast is not included. The excellent à-la-carte has breads, pastries, fruit, coffee, smoothies and teas, a full English and some tempting American-style hot dishes, including hazelnut waffles and eggs any which way.
