ho_w248I think this wedding features everything I love about weddings. Pastel perfection, glorious flowers, beautiful photography, a couple that really injected so much personality in to their day, and lots and lots of happy faces. I have been looking forward to blogging this for such a long time and I am so pleased I now finally can. This wedding is also such a strong reminder of how important photography is at capturing moments and people that you will want to remember.

Jessica Tanswell bridal hair and makeup really did the most wonderful job of my hair and make up on the day. We had had several trials before hand and she really gave me and my older bridesmaids the bohemian style hair and make up we wished for. Jessica really listened to what we wanted and I never thought I could look the way I did on our wedding day with huge thanks to Jessica . Each of the bridesmaids hair were different as requested and really suited their individual style. Nicola Wright styled the younger bridemaids hair with the most beautiful beachy curls, each of the girls looked like woodland fairies with Nicolas hard work and placing of the flower crowns, such wonderful hair styling to create that special look.

The perfume I wore was a present from Ollie ‘Something Blue’ By Oscar de la Renta– every time I smell this scent now it takes me straight back to our wedding day and all the special memories it holds. It was such a lovely idea from Ollie as he knew I was struggling for my ‘something blue’ and this couldn’t have been any better, delivered on our wedding morning in the sweetest of boxes and heart felt card.

After searching round several dress shops I just couldn’t find that dress that was a little different and really stood out as bohemian. I then came across a designer called Daughters Of  Simone and fell in love with all of there dresses. After spending hours looking I then decided on the ‘Winnie’ dress, it was a beautiful warm ivory shade, vintage lace stunning boho detail. It was a huge risk to order my dress online, but I knew that this was the one, I therefore went with it and around a month later the dress of my dreams arrived- a perfect fit! My shoes were from Jimmy Choo – my wedding day being the only ever time I could consider spending that amount of money on shoes – I therefore has to take that opportunity! They set my dress of a treat and had the perfect petit heel.

Bride’s hair accessories/veil: From as long as I can remember I had always wanted a flower crown on my wedding day and what a treat it was! Charlie created the crown of my dreams and it really added that final bohemian touch to my outfit and made me feel so special. I have now dried the crown so I can keep it forever.

When looking for a wedding suit Ollie had his heart set on something a little bit different..We came across a shop called ‘Diverso’ in London. The guys in the shop were really helpful and they had lots of different ideas. Ollie opted for a made to measure light blue two piece suit, a white penny collar shirt with hand stitched blue trim, a peach bow tie and to top it off checkered braces attached to the inner trouser. Finding a pair of shoes to match the leather attachments for the braces proved quite tricky, however John Lewis had the perfect brogues with red laces to give a bit of extra colour.

Groomsmen’s outfits/accessories: For the Groomsmen we wanted a country gent style. For the best men their jackets came from Next teamed with a patterned peach bowtie and navy braces. The ushers wore a snazzy floral shirt from Ted Baker and trouser from Zara. The pageboys looked super cute in their short sleeve floral shirt, Zara chinos, patterned bow tie and braces.

After we had booked Binky within our booking package there was a leaflet with recommended suppliers inside, which was a huge help to us. We then looked up the Flower Fairies whose beautiful flower arrangements really stood out…After seeing her wonderful creations we then arranged to meet Charlie which included a lovely trip to the Cotswolds! Charlie was so friendly and inspirational to us and her work shop is absolutely stunning! When we first met we only has a brief idea of flowers and designs and several meetings later we were brimming with ideas all thanks to Charlie and her imagination of our ‘Woodland Wedding’.

On our wedding day Charlie and her group of flower fairies worked super hard to create our flower heaven!.. including a magical flower back drop, jam jar flowers, milk churn beauties and supplying 165 single stem flowers to give out to each guest on the day as part of our ceremony. On our wedding morning Charlie arrived to our hotel room with the most beautiful bouquets I have ever seen, they really took my breath away. All the bridesmaids couldn’t believe how pretty they were and the flowers crowns were just out of this world. When my bouquet and crown arrived I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing, they were what my dreams were made of and Charlie had managed to create that in real life- she really is so talented and such a special lady.

As soon as we got engaged we knew that finding our dream venue was going to be a hard task… After doing a lot of research into different weddings we had our hearts set on a festival/bohemian/outdoor wedding… We found it very difficult to find somewhere unusal where we could really make our wedding ideas some true..After several weeks we then came across Scraptoft Hill Farm in Leicestershire. It was a cold wet day in January when we first went to visit with our parents, we were met by the farm owners who lead us up to what we now call ‘The Field Of Dreams’ Ollie and I could see its potenial straight away and even though our wellies were soked through and knee deep in mud we new we had found ‘the one’-all though I think we were the only ones to see the potential at that point! We decided to have a humanist wedding in the woodland section of the farm and then our ceremony in the meadow field. In the meadow we had a sperry tent by Papakata, it really had that festival feel and the whole team worked so hard to make sure it looked perfect. It really was stunning and fitted perfectly in with the surroundings.

We wanted the bridemaids to all wear something different which really showed of the bohemian look and which suited the woodland/field venue. The only request I had was that it had to be of a peach or blush shade. We then set about looking in different shops and online. Each of their dresses were stunning and all came together so wonderful on the day. The dresses came from a range of places including: ASOS, Dhal NYC and ilovegorgeous. Each of the girls were given a Monsoon gold bracelet in the morning to match with their dresses.

Groom: Its very hard to pick one particular  favourite moment, but seeing Hannah walk down the aisle was a moment that I will never forget, all of my nerves went and she looked stunning.  Bride: It so hard to pick one moment- the whole day was beyond our wildest dreams- it really was the best day of my life.  To see Ollie looking so dapper in his bow tie whilst I was stood with my dad was such a heartwarming moment, I really am the luckiest girl alive.

Our wedding décor very much centered on a boho festival theme with alot of homemade touches. We were very lucky to have the support of our family and friends in spending many an evening making fabric and lace covered tins for favors which each contained a different herb, wool covered jam jars which lined the tables with beautiful flowers, glitter flower cones and meters of tassel garlands to place in the woodland area. A special thank you to our mums who spent hours in creating napkin pouches and peach dipped napkins with a pompom edging and much more, without them we wouldn’t have been able to create our dream wedding.  In the festival tent we had the most stunning arrangement of dream catchers and tassel garland which was created by the lovely Laura from Things By Laura, it really made the tent look so pretty and we know that Laura put a lot of work into making it look so stunning. To finish the look we made a lot of different wooden signs from palettes, gathered games for the children and had a sack race. We also encouraged people to bring a bake off item, all of which were incredible so much effort had gone into them all and we had to choose three lucky winners who were awarded with a wooden spoon from Not On The High Street. We also had a sign made for our gust book area by a lovely lady called Nicola, it really stood out and people loved using the Polaroid camera to create special memories for us.

Our stunning stationary was all produced by the beautiful Gemma Milly. From our first meeting with Gemma she took our ideas and completly ran with them and turned them into works of art. Our invites really set the tone of the wedding to our guests and the little dipped feathers with each invite were such a treat. Gemma really seemed to understand what we were trying to achieve and came up with lots of sweet ideas. Her commitment to making everything perfect really stood out and shone through on the day. The peach place name flags were so cute and the chalkboard menu and seating plan looked amazing. We thank Gemma so much for her support throughout and for turning me into a gold glitter-aholic!!

ho_w263 ho_w264 ho_w265 THECAKE

Louise from A little piece of cupcake created our wedding cakes for us. When we first met Louise she greeted us with the most yummy carrot cupcake, it was delicious! We loved her pastel coloured cakes and the different piping on them. We opted for a three tier wedding cake, each tier being a different flavor. We had many compliments on how tasty it was and it looked stunning. Louise also made us some mini colourful cakes and also some cake pops which went down a treat with their chocolate filling, placed so sweetly in a wooden log. We also had a cake topper from MilkTea a lady on Etsy. This was so sweet, matching our wedding outfits and it is the most precious of keepsakes.

ho_w268 ho_w271 ho_w272 ho_w273 ho_w274 ho_w275 ho_w276 thefood&drink

The catering was by McArtney’s. We wanted a traditional English picnic feel with lots of mini goodies and boy did they deliver!!…We started with platers of picnic yummys including, homemade scotch eggs, scones with jam and clotted cream, cheese straws and balsamic popcorn in stripped paper bags to name but a few! This was served along side our very own ‘Scraptoft Slinger’ cocktail in cute jam jars. For the main meal dinner was served on a wooden disc for each person, on this sat a mini pot with delish pulled pork, the sweetest ceasur salad, a beef burger slider held together with hearts on a stick and big bowls of sweet potato chips. For dessert we had the biggest summer fruit merangues served to each table which guested then sliced them serves and dug in! The late night snack was bacon baps along with a ‘cheese’ cake and lots of cake from the big day bake off! We had an open bar with all the proceeds going towards Birmingham Childrens Hospital a charity close to our heart. There was beer on tap and baby booze all served up in old wheel barrows.

We first met Binky Nixon when attended a wedding fair, we instantly felt a connection with her and her style of photography. All of her photos looked absolutely stunning and really had that ‘wow’ factor!  We couldn’t quite believe we were going to be lucky enough to have Binky shoot our wedding and capture all of our special moments for us. We had an engagement shoot at our allotment on Ollie’s Birthday, with our pooch Nancy. Binky made us feel at ease and we were so thrilled with the pictures. On our big day it was more like having a friend photograph for us, everyone commented how lovely it was to have such a relaxed way of photographing and how lovely Binky was. After now receiving our photographs we are completely over the moon! We never though our wedding would look like it does in the photos Binky has captured, we sit and look at the photos in ore and for that we cannot thank Binky enough, she is THE best. We also had a video created for us by Hugh Farrow, he creates beautiful wedding videos in super 8 film. Hugh was fantastic on our wedding day and really made us feel comfortable and we had lots of fun. We are so excited to see his wonderful creation and have our special day on video to watch together with family and friends.

From early on in the wedding planning we asked friends and family to collect tins, we then had several ‘making evenings’ where we covered these in fabric and lace. We then filled these with a mixture of herbs from a local plan nursery. For the children we created goodie bags to keep them entertained throughout the day. As an added extra all of the men had a Cuban Cigar popped into the cutlery pouch.

We have always wanted to go to Santorini and finally our dreams came true! We stayed in the ‘Grace Hotel’ and had our very own apartment with a Jacuzzi on our balcony.

After a trip to Dublin Ollie and I fell in love with folk style much which really suited our festival style wedding. After searching for a fold band we eventually came across Festival Sons, their videos online looked like just the type of band we were after. Their management was very good at communicating and ensuring that all our needs were met. For our ceremony we had one of the band members sing acoustically for us in the woodland area, to walk down the aisle with my Dad we had ‘Here comes the sun’ by the Beatles and Ollie and I walked back up the aisle to ‘Ho hey’ by the Lumineers. The band then played a set whilst we greated our guests after the ceremony and then at night they played two sets with our choice in music played inbetween. They were absolutely incredible and the dancefloor was filled all night! Everyone commented that they were the best band they had ever heard and totally made our wedding have that festival factor!! For our first dance we had ‘Galway Girl’ by Steve Earle, this song has such special memories for us both.

We have to say a very special thank you to Jessie Thomson. Jessie is a wonder women!- she helped us to plan the wedding we had always wished for and lots more… Nothing was ever too much trouble and she aided us in finding top suppliers and bohemian inspiration. On the day Jessie made sure that everything ran like clockwork, she really made us both feel at ease on the day that everything would be just perfect come rain or shine! (Luckily shine) and she has become a good friend. You are a very talented lady Jessie with much wedding wisdom and love.
