How To ~ Glowy Summer Makeup | uk wedding blog

Welcome to the new look SYGM! I hope you love it as much as I do, so much hard work went in to this from the incredible Gemma Milly and Kim Lawler. I thought it would be appropriate to have out first post from Emily, our new Beauty Editor. Enjoy!

So when thinking about beauty related posts I thought you guys might like to see, I thought about the photos which get the most response on my Instagram, and it’s usually before and afters.  I think they work so well because they actually show you what a makeup product can do, and although there is an element of skill involved in application, I think it’s great to see real results rather than just a list of benefits. With this in mind, I thought I’d dedicate one post a month to showing you some makeup in real time – with the help of some of the gorgeous faces I come across in my freelance work and my talented friend Samantha who happens to be a dab hand with photography. Make sure you let me know the kind of looks you’d love to see, or products you want to see in action!

So this look is all about The Glow. Capital T, capital G. Because we all want The Glow in summer right? Not the I’m-sweltering-in-an-office-lacking-in-air conditioning glow, just the Mojito-on-a-balmy-sunset-laden-beach-in-Bali-glow (holiday 2014 reminiscing – take me back!) Now, clearly my gorgeous model Lana has a natural glow, but even the best skin can be enhanced with a gorgeous wash of colour on lips and cheeks. These products are perfect for a beach bride, or holiday makeup too and are all easy to use for a natural but striking effect.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue in 02 Vanilla is the only base I used, and as a hydrating gel crème it gives a beautiful light – medium dewy coverage, with SPF30 (essential) and plenty of hydration. Keeping product on the skin light will help to give your face a break from heavy bases in warmer temperatures, and for any dewy look you really want to see skin, not just product – this is great for that as it’s freckle friendly but covers imperfections and evens skin tone.  A good primer underneath your base will also help longevity and wear.

Becca Beach Tint in Watermelon is water resistant, and smells amazing (funnily enough, of watermelon). Its a crème blush which offers a buildable wash of colour, and gives a gorgeous blendable flush to the cheeks ( and lips, if you are so inclined) ~ I’m absolutely in love with this product! Bronzer is a must for summer skin, and I love Delilah Matte Bronzer in light medium for a fair skin like Lana’s as it adds a hint of soft warmth without being overwhelmingly dark.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow is my holiday saviour – being somewhat lacking in the natural brow department, when I “put my brows on” of a morning I expect them to stay there. And ABH certainly does (hence it’s sterling reputation). A waterproof pomade which can be applied to give a natural effect or dramatic depending on your preference, this is my kit staple, personal staple, travel staple – I adore it. I used shade Blonde on Lana, and added some soft smokiness to the eyes with the Anastasia Shadow Couture World Traveller Palette.

I added a pair of my favourite Ardell Demi Wispies lashes – you can see what a gorgeous and natural fluttery effect they give! Made from human hair and super light they are also really comfortable to wear. For the lips, this high shine Delilah gloss in Siren teamed with coral lipstick in Tango make a perfect summer combination.

This gorgeous hair was created by the magic fingers of Flamingo Amy – she achieved this style using crimpers ( I know – and you left them in the early 90s!) and took large sections of the hair to create a halo braid, to which she weaved through gold chains to add a boho feel.

Here’s Lana’s before and after, and you can see a little video of the look being created by moi here (superior YouTube things are on their way, I promise!)

I’d love to know if you’ve tried any of these products, and what you thought of them, – or any of your summer essentials!

Emily x
