Paula Pryke has been a wedding florist and designer for more than thirty years now, earning an OBE in the process. Luckily for us she’s put her floral knowledge into book form, something I could have done with when planning which blooms to use at my own wedding. We were invited to her book launch this week at Fortnum and Mason and saw some of Paula’s creations up close. It was like being in a summer’s garden despite the freezing cold outside.
You can use the book in one of two ways, or a combination of the two. If you’re using a wedding florist this book would be a good starting point as to the kinds of flowers, colours and styles you want to use to decorate your day. There are so many beautiful photos with some amazing ideas, to suit every type of wedding and colour scheme. Even if you think you know what types of flowers you like, it’s a perfect guide for the many different varieties and names. Think peonies, do you prefer Sarah Bernhardt or Shirley Temple? Or maybe Bridal Shower? Think of it like a catalogue of prettiness for you to note your favourites. You won’t get that kind of info of Pinterest.
You’ll get suggestions as to what other pretties to put with your favourite flowers, some I would never have thought of before. I love the seasonal guides, with the best blooms if your wedding is in late spring/high summer etc. I actually chose my wedding date based on the peony season.
There are ideas for making the venue for he ceremony itself look stunning including dramatic floral arches, grand welcoming pedestal arrangements and charming pew ends. For the reception afterwards there are suggestions for beautiful table decorations, chair backs, napkin details and cake toppers.
If you’re planning to do the flowers yourself, there are some really fab, unique ideas and floral ‘recipes’ to make 29 step by step projects to make it easier. From bouquets to big floral hearts and arches, I’m definitely inspired to have a go this summer.
Packed with gorgeous designs, this is an invaluable sourcebook of stunning and original wedding flowers essential to every bride.
The book is released today, you can find it on Amazon here.
