The Solent Hotel & Spa | UK WEDDING BLOG

By Laura

Hello lovely SYGMers, I hope you’ve been having a relaxing summer so far, whether that has been getting married, honeymooning or just enjoying the warm summer days. I love to travel the UK sampling different hotels and venues to give you guys an insight into all the wonderful gems there are out there. This weekend, we travelled down South to Fareham to spend an evening at The Solent Hotel & Spa. Located in Hampshire between Portsmouth and Southampton, the hotel is ideally situated for exploring the South Coast which is just a short drive away. The Solent Hotel is a great spot to escape from the city skylines without breaking the bank. It also has three function rooms that are fully licenced so if you fancy a venue near the sea then add The Solent Hotel & Spa to your list of venues to check out.

As ever, we arrived about half an hour early but we were invited to have a drink in the hotel bar while we waited for our room to be ready. The decor was fresh and light with little nautical nuances which I loved. FYI, their Raspberry and Elderflower Fizz cocktail is delicious. We actually spent about an hour here going through our wedding menu and it was so chilled and relaxed that we didn’t notice the time fly by. The receptionist came over to say that we could head over to our room whenever we were ready so we decided to finish off our drinks and gather our things. We were placed in one of their Junior Suites on the ground floor, seconds away from the hotel spa. The room was spacious and included a corner sofa to lounge around on – Fraser did spend some of the afternoon listening to the cricket of course! You can tell that the hotel has undergone some recent refurbishments because the decor was modern and cosy – we had a duck egg blue panel headboard and it just added that extra something special to the room.

I didn’t get to see the function rooms dressed up, but they were all a decent size, the biggest one seating up to 160 guests. I was told by Grace, the lovely lady on reception, that if you book your wedding there then naturally you receive a discount code for your guests should they also want to book a room in the hotel.

The Spa is a serene oasis of calm with a fully kitted out gym, sauna and treatment rooms where you can have anything from a facial to a full body massage all using luxurious Caudalie products. While we were here, we saw a few groups of ladies enjoying afternoon tea in their dressing gowns so clearly The Solent Hotel is a popular choice for perhaps leisurely hen groups to enjoy a spa retreat.

We were very kindly treated to our evening meal in the hotel restaurant which had really gorgeous pastel themed decor. There is also an al fresco dining area for those hot summer evenings and a private dining room if you wanted to book out something more exclusive from other diners. In fact, there was a hen party having a good old time while we were having our dinner. Talking of which, the menu boasts a sort of Mediterranean/Spanish feel with plenty of fresh fish on the menu what with it being so close to the sea. To start, we shared seared octopus with a quails egg and potatoes along with some serrano ham and Manchego cheese. A spanish tapas treat. There was also the option of The Chef’s Table, a self-serve ice bar with a variety of seafood, cured meats and salad to choose from. For our main, we decided on the roast hake with seafood paella and the Catalan seafood stew. Our favourite course, dessert, was churros with chocolate sauce and ‘summer pudding’ with berries and clotted cream – yum! All chased down of course with another cocktail. It would have been nice to have a bit of background music just to create a bit of ambience but the atmosphere was chilled so much so that we spent another 45 minutes or so chatting away after our final course was cleared.

Overall, a short but sweet stay at The Solent Hotel & Spa which I would say is ideal for bringing your girlfriends to for a bit of R&R. In all honesty, if you are nearby, it is even a pleasant little spot for dinner with your partner. Clearly, they can accommodate anything from couples to hen parties to entire weddings thus a well-rounded hotel and venue.

{We were guests of The Solent Hotel & Spa, but as always, all opinions are 100% my own}
