Woughton House – Wedding Venue in North Buckinghamshire | UK WEDDING BLOG

By Laura

Hello! I’m back this afternoon with a wonderful wedding venue nestled in the heart of Buckinghamshire. Woughton House is a picturesque Georgian manor house set on tranquil grounds minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Milton Keynes. Originally, a family home in the 19th century, Woughton House is now proudly owned by MGallery by Sofitel and has opened its doors as a quaint hotel and wedding venue. I was kindly invited to its grand launch and treated to an overnight stay and here’s what I thought!

I’ll be honest, when you make the left turn off the dual carriageway and the sat nav says you’ve almost reached your destination, the thought ‘how on earth are we 3 minutes away from a gorgeous manor house?’ definitely crosses your mind. But it’s true! Suddenly a driveway of arching trees approaches and you’re graced with the beautiful white washed exterior of Woughton House. We were very lucky with the weather and it was a glorious, balmy evening which made the perfectly preened gardens look even more spectacular. The hotel is surrounded by the verdant countryside of the Ouzel Valley Park and boasts a vintage birdcage, a swing big enough 2 and a rose-covered archway; all perfect for those important wedding photos.

Once we were all checked in we had a bit of time to explore our room and surroundings before getting ready for the drinks reception. The hotel has 50 bedrooms which is offers a great option to your guests whether they have come far for the wedding or don’t want to deal with the bother of getting taxis back home. We were in one of their Privilege Superior Double Rooms and there was more than enough space to get ready and relax. The bathroom had some serious #goals with checkerboard tiles and cute White Company toiletries. The best part was of course the fully stocked mini-bar and complimentary macaroons on arrival; it was such a nice touch and definitely whet our appetite for the meal ahead. If I had to give one criticism about the room it would be that there aren’t any plug sockets either side of the bed. The nearest one was located above the desk which, for someone who uses their phone as an alarm clock, wasn’t very useful.

After putting on my LBD and lipstick we head down to the outdoor area where we were greeted with kir royales and canapés. It was such a lovely evening to chat and get to know the people we would be sharing a table with and you really did get a feel that this would be ideal for a wedding reception. This part of the evening was slightly longer than anticipated but before we knew it we were cutting the red ribbon and heading in to dinner. The room was beautifully decked out with candelabras and mood lighting with the sultry tones of a pianist on the white baby piano to accompany our entrance. I immediately spotted the mirror photo booth in the corner – trust me to seek out any photo opportunities!

You always pray that after a wonderful day celebrating, you aren’t going to be let down by the food. Well I have to say, the food was delicious. We had beetroot cured Scottish salmon to start, roast beef striploin with horseradish creamed potato as our main and a lemon and raspberry torte to finish things off. Our clean plates said it all really so you can rest assured that if you were to have your wedding there, you’d get lots of compliments about the food. I don’t know about you but I love a good hotel breakfast, especially after dancing the night away and Woughton House gave you all the choice. Whether you want a full cooked breakfast or something light like fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt – there was something to tickle every taste bud.

I can’t leave this post without mentioning that heavenly bed. It was a dream to sleep in with the fluffiest of pillows. There’s nothing better than when a great night is coming to an end and you know you have a super comfy bed to flop onto. It left me totally rested for the next day and I only wish we had time to explore the extensive grounds on Woughton House’s complimentary bikes which were giving me all of the Soho Farmhouse feels.
