Hello! A very Happy New Year to you all, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas? If you’re anything like I was, now that we’re into 2018 and all the festivities are out the way, you’ll want to get back to wedding planning and get your honeymoon organised. Having a trip booked and being able to look forward to it can make all the difference in what can be a very blah, cold and dark couple of months ahead. So as always at this time of year, I’ve put together my guide to new openings and developments in the honeymoon world for the year ahead. Get ready for some wanderlust! We’ve got everything from staycations to snowy ski lodges to safaris and tropical beaches.

// Fancy a slice of paradise? Our favourite luxury all inclusive travel group Sandals has a brand new resort which only opened last month. Sandals Royal Barbados is the new top of the top with all suites being butler serviced. And in Jamaica, the Sandals South Coast resort in Jamaica has just opened 12 Over-The-Water bungalows for Maldives kind of vibes in a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere. Over-The-Water bungalows at Sandals South Coast offer a hammock for two that sits above the water, an outdoor shower and a swim up patio. The interior boasts ‘sea-through’ glass floors, an idea that I love. Guests can also benefit from personalised butler service and 24-hour room service. Just last year, Sandals South Coast also opened the Group’s first ever over-the-water bar, Latitudes, featuring spectacular views, romantic fire pits and cantilevered hammocks suspended over the clear waters, as well as an Over-The-Water wedding chapel {!}.

// We’re actually off to the Turks & Caicos Islands this weekend {!!} and are so excited to stay at the reopened Beaches resort. I can’t wait to report back. Even though it’s a family friendly version of Sandals, there are plenty of couples areas for honeymooners {friends of ours went and couldn’t recommend it more highly} and the beach looks insane. The resort got hit by the hurricane in September but has now been reopened and is better than ever with all accommodation being updated along with a new Sky rooftop restaurant bar with fine dining and views out over Grace Bay. For more information on Sandals and Beaches Resorts visit www.sandals.co.uk or www.beachesresorts.co.uk, call 0800 597 0002 or pop down to the new sandals Luxury Travel Store at 135 Fulham Road, London.

// For something more boutiquey but totally tropical look to Mr & Mrs Smith. They’ve recently launched a couple of new honeymoon hotels so if you fancy an overwater cinema and overwater suites that have retractable ceilings for late-night star gazing look no further than Soneva Jani in the Maldives. Boutique bedrooms don’t come better than here and you’ll find roof decks with a curved slide to the water below and sea-surveying infinity pools. There’s also a luxurious spa and delicious dining. This is the Maldives at it’s most magical. Although this is definitely a blow the budget kind of honeymoon, over-water villas from £2904 a night. You can find more online here at the travel club for hotel lovers. Join the Mr & Mrs Smith travel club to enjoy our best-price guarantee, as well as a little something extra on arrival at every hotel. To book, call 0330 100 3180 or go to mrandmrssmith.com.

// For something more adventurous, the Plataran Menjangan Resort & Spa in Bali is a luxury eco-lodge in West Bali’s lesser-known National Park. Set amongst mangroves and mountains, the resort offers guests a range of activities from safaris, diving, trekking and tastings at a local vineyard. There are luxury ocean villas with veiled four-poster beds, private plunge pools and ocean views. Villas from £190 a night, including breakfast.

// Are you a fan of Franco Manca Pizza? If so, like me, you might have recently heard of Salina island, off of Sicily in Italy where a lot of the delicious pizza ingredients come from and the home of Franco Manca. I’m dreaming of visiting for a sun-kissed stay. Principe di Salina is a whitewashed boutique hotel with authentic Italian fare, a glittering infinity pool and stylish suites.

// I think I may have mentioned Sri Lanka before as an ideal honeymoon spot for combining beaches with culture and even Safaris. It’s the perfect add on to a week in the Maldives or a destination in itself with the capital Colombo, beach resorts, surf areas, safaris and tea plantations. There are two new Shangri La resorts which have only just opened {and we’re super stoked to go and visit both in May, again we’ll be reporting back fully on these as honeymoon resorts}. Shangri La Hotel Colombo offers luxury in amongst the colonial buildings and fascinating city history. The hotel has six restaurants, a signature spa and sundeck with infinity pool to cool off after exploring. Rooms all have uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean, Beira Lake or impressive skyline.

// Overlooking the southern coast of beautiful Sri Lanka and framed by swaying king coconut trees, Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa is located across a former coconut plantation. The luxury resort is the largest in Sri Lanka. It is home to an 18-hole golf course, an expansive spa and an artisan village. Shangri-La’s signature CHI Ayurveda Spa is a place of personal peace, enchantment and wellbeing that features exceptional Asian and Ayurvedic treatments. The 30-metre sunset pool looks magical on Instagram. Nearby, are some of Asia’s most fascinating nature sanctuaries like the Yala and Bundala National Parks, which are home to some of the world’s best wildlife including the elusive Sri Lankan leopard and elephants which can be seen on river safaris arranged by the resort.

// Maybe a romantic ski chalet for two in Courchevel is more your thing? Petite Marmotte is an ideal hideaway for honeymooners. Small but perfectly formed, the 1950s former hay store is located on the sunny side of the mountain in a quiet and secluded hamlet on the edge of the forest above Moriond. A ski in ski out chalet {how cool does that sound?!}, this romantic hideaway is cosy and warm with a steam chimney, a wood burning fire and beautiful bedroom. Plus there’s an outdoor hot tub overlooking the slopes for romantic evenings. €5,000 on B&B for 7 nights – www.portetta.com – 0033 47908 0147

// Lisbon was one of my most favourite new places that I visited last year. It’s such a relaxed, on trend city filled with tiles and trams and is the sunniest capital in Western Europe. Memmo Principe Real is a boutique 5 star hotel just outside of Lisbon for a perfect city escape honeymoon. Couples staying at Memmo Príncipe Real are home to a secret sightseeing spot with breathtaking views over the city and a gateway to explore one of the most charming neighbourhoods in Lisbon. Newlyweds can enjoy candlelit dinners, impeccable service, a swim in the rooftop pool overlooking the stunning city views and gain a Lisbon experience that feels both timeless and authentically local. Make sure you visit the Parc rooftop bar, on top of a car park but with amazing views and a hipster vibe. Memmo Príncipe Real, Lisbon From £174 per night – www.memmohotels.com – +351 219 016 800

// A Safari would make for a truly unique and magical honeymoon. And in June this year the andBeyond Bateleur Camp in Kenya’s Masai Mara will open after a large relaunch. New features in the guest tents will include built-in day beds on private verandas, situated to admire the views, as well as open-air stone courtyards flanking the bathroom. New finishes will include deep bathtubs, sumptuous furniture and fittings and chrome ware. Al fresco showers will add a touch of authentic safaris, which butler hatches will allow for service that is intimate and discrete, while also fully personalised. Two swimming pools will make a welcome addition to the camp, with extensive poolside decking providing the ideal location for outside dining. A well-equipped fitness centre will enable health enthusiasts to exercise in full view of a magnificent Masai Mara panorama along with a coffee bar that will convert into a gin bar by night. Lodge luxury at it’s finest!

// Imagine pressing a button for champagne over Thailand’s most beautiful beach. Phuket’s premiere resort The Nai Harn has launched new Ocean View Suites that are large enough for its very own mini putting green, dedicated BBQ Butler, glamorous day bed and handy press for champagne button {!}. Each ultra-stylish 40 square metre hideaway mean that you never need to leave the privacy of your terrace. Complemented with plush new sun loungers and parasols and with the knowledge that champagne is just a press away, guests can perfect their golf swing, enjoy a custom-made BBQ or order Japanese cuisine directly from the resort’s exclusive new sushi and sashimi bar.

// Closer to home, St Ives has long been a favourite seaside town in the UK. It has quaint cobbled streets, independent shops, beautiful beaches and fishermen’s cottages along with a real art scene. In June we’re heading to the Carbis Bay Hotel’s new lodges, situated in the bay just round from St Ives {within walking distance} where when the sun shines the sea rivals the Caribbean colours {no I’m serious!}. Opening ready for Easter 2018, the lodges will introduce a new level of luxury right on the beach. Each lodge will have three or four en-suite bedrooms as well as a large open plan living space and private garden. Guests will have direct access to their own private stretch of sand and hot tubs and heated plunge pools with the bay’s ocean views. The main hotel has a yacht, fine dining restaurant and C Bay Spa with heated outdoor swimming pool. Who needs to go abroad?!

// In the Cotswolds, just west of Oxford The Artist Residence have opened their fourth super stylish inn – essentially a pub with rooms {the original starting in Brighton a few years back}. A clever new eclectic take on a traditional country pub which got named as the Sunday Times most romantic hotel this year, a high accolade indeed. There are just five bedrooms in the eaves here with a strong focus on food and design. I’m in love with these bathrooms for a start!!

// And finally, as Laura visited this year for a wedding and event space tour, Soho House’s new hotel The Ned opened in April. Designed by Edwin “Ned” Lutyens in 1924, the former Midland Bank headquarters, next to the Bank of England and the Royal Exchange in the City, has been transformed into The Ned, a sumptuous 252-room hotel in the City. Expect old-school glamour, nine restaurants, rooftop and indoor pools and a spa. If you’re under 30, there’s a special discount – rooms from £150 a night; if you’re any older, expect to fork out £100 more! There’s a rooftop pool but beware of the no photo rule. It’s Soho House after all and you’re likely to spot some celebs.
