Introductions!

By Lucy

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be here as an SYGM real bride and I can’t wait to share our wedding journey with you all, whilst hopefully picking up some tips and advice from you fellow wedding enthusiasts along the way. But first, let’s do some introductions. I’m Lucy, a 27 year-old Northerner living in London. I’m engaged to Harry, my friend of 14 years and boyfriend of 6 years.

I’ve never before contemplated the meaning of the phrase “better half” before sitting down to write this, but that is exactly what Harry is; he’s kind, patient, lovely. An all-round good egg if you ask me. It feels amazing having this incredible man by myside and on my team in life.

Our engagement story isn’t the most glamorous, but I still get a fuzzy feeling inside just thinking about it! Harry proposed on the 23rd December 2016, on a beach in Tynemouth in the North East of England. It was just me, him and a big old diamond ring. Afterwards we got fish and chips and went to see my Granny, because I wanted to tell her first. It was the perfect, understated proposal.

As well as celebrating with our families, I proceeded to spend a large part of Christmas last year curled up on my Mum’s sofa in front of the fire, eating chocolate, drinking Christmas cocktails and researching wedding ideas and Pinterest-ing to my heart’s content. The perfect way to spend the festive period!

We’ve set the date and will be saying our I dos on the 21st July 2018 in a small village in Cumbria called Orton, where my Mum and Step-Dad live. For a long time July 2018 has felt like an eternity away, but now the new year is just around the corner and all of a sudden it doesn’t seem that far away at all. I’m a mixture of nervousness and excitement thinking about all the planning we still need to do!

I’ve already had some incredible wedding planning highs – putting the deposit down on our venue, nights out with my bridesmaids and dress shopping with my Mum, who even braved coming to London for the occasion! But there’s no denying that wedding planning can be hard, and sometimes even exaggerate what is already a stress in your life: family dramas, guest list juggling, questioning every decision you make. Yes, I’ve already advertised my dress up (and then taken it off) Still White *face palm*.

I’m trying not to dwell on the things I can’t control and to lean into the excitement of planning our wedding. I can’t wait to bring you along for the ride, it’s going to be quite the adventure!

Until next time,

Lucy xx
