So after spending the evening of the proposal in a giddy, champagne haze, I woke up the next morning pinching myself! I thought it had all been a dream – I couldn’t believe the beautiful ring Greg picked out was on my ring finger! We got our favourite spot on the beach, and actually got round to discussing venues!
I remember seeing photos of a wedding venue a few years before we got engaged. I fell in love with the venue and after some facebook stalking, found it was The Italian Villa in Compton Acres, in Poole. I think I knew then that was my wedding venue. We booked a viewing to see the Villa a couple of weeks after our engagement. I think it was love at first sight, especially for me. We arranged a few viewings at other venues in Southampton and Christchurch, but nothing compared to the beautiful Villa and gardens of Compton Acres.
We had come to the decision very early on that we would have a fairly long engagement. We were funding the wedding ourselves and wanted to give enough time to save, and to ensure we got everything we wanted, instead of having to settle for second best! The package The Italian Villa offered for a Friday wedding in March was a great deal, enabling us to have all the guests we wanted, with a three course meal, drinks and evening buffet. We booked the venue last January 2016, and it feels like a lifetime ago, as well as feeling like it was just last week!
Since then we have visited a few times. We went back a second time with my parents, and I am so lucky to have had a photo taken with my father in the grounds, knowing he won’t see me in my wedding dress, on my wedding day. Maybe that is for another post?
How did you all find venue searching? Was it the easiest part of your planning, or are you still debating where to hold your special day? It is difficult now, there is so much on offer – so many possibilities and combinations! Is your dream venue in a castle with a five course sit down meal with champagne flowing, or a barn wedding with hay bales to eat your picnic on, and craft ale? Either way, I’ll be there!
