Morning all! I think this is our first Flemish wedding, the back drop of the rolling countryside is beautiful but it helps having two dapper grooms in the mix too. Bas and Lars planned their countryside wedding whilst based in the US, they give several tips for stress free planning. After the day they honeymooned in Costa Rica.

De Deugdzonde, A transformed farm that now serves as a B&B in the middle of the Flemish countryside.

Agora – A friend of ours works for one of the biggest flower importers in Belgium and he helped us by order, delivering, and arranging all the flowers. I think overall we had over 2500 flowers to display …

Lars – Hugo Boss suits, Paul Smith shoes.

To be honest, we were not too concerned about our suits. After all, it’s a suit. We spent one afternoon in downtown Brussels and it took us about 1h in the Hugo Boss shop to find two different suits  (we didn’t want to look like twins with the same suits on)

Bas – Mario Bruni shoes, Hugo Boss suit

Foodtrucks –  We had a company that came with three small foodtrucks: Mexican, fish & chips, and thai food were on offer.

They also provided nibbles for the champagne receptions

Celebrant – Lieke Biesemans (Story by Mable) http://www.storiesbymabel.be/

Lieke was very special – she interviewed us a number of times, we had to fill in a questionnaire, and she spoke to lots of our friends. And she gave a wonderful ceremony, telling ‘our story’ and there was not a dry eye in the house. It was really about celebrating ‘us’ and we can’t stress enough what an amazing job she did.

There were so many! Bas – We had already been officially married in America, so this was for friends and family with a more laid back ceremony. More about celebrating! I loved the photo shoot where we got away from the crowds for 20 minutes as the sun was setting!

Lars – There was a moment when our celebrant quoted something Bas had said about me, really touched me and I cried for the umpteenth time that day, along with a lot of the guests, it was an amazing thing to share what we loved about each other with people we love.

Friend – A friend of ours, who is an amazing home-baker, made a perfectly iced, three tier cake, the top tier was a rainbow cake, plus a lemon cake, and a chocolate cake. It was breathtaking!

Everybody was given a bag with our initials on which included essentials like a bar of handmade soap, chocolate m&m’s with our initials and our dog’s! We also included a hangover kit.

Hits with Tits – Obviously the best-named girl-DJ duo; oh, those continentals …

Costa Rica – We are planning a trip to Costa Rica in 2017 – the US only gives us 12 days of paid leave, so we had to wait a year …

Advice to those planning –

We used a wedding planner which took a lot of the stress away as we are both busy with work. Also being in the U.S made it a little impractical trying to organize it ourselves!

Where did you find your inspiration? We wanted somewhere where guest could stay as they were travelling form all over Europe. We also wanted a rustic countryside venue in the height of summer, as the Belgian countryside is so beautiful. With the flowers everywhere in this historic barn it was beautiful we had a sunny day too!
