10 reasons to Honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast | UK WEDDING BLOG

The Amalfi Coast had been on my wish list to visit for a long time and this May my dream came true as my husband and I took a week to Positano exploring Italy’s dreamiest, most romantic coastline. It was my favourite place in Italy so far, the perfect mix of beaches, culture and of course food. We loved it so much that we couldn’t wait to return so have already booked another trip for next September {more on that below}. I thought I’d put together a quick guide with 10 reasons on why you must visit and give you the low down on where to stay for some honeymoon inspo on this October afternoon…

1. The food is insane. The Italian’s sure do know their stuff and you’ll find the best pizzas anywhere in the world here just a stones throw from Naples where they were started. Not to mention the pasta, seafood, wine and gelato. Lemons grow everywhere out there and you’ll find them outside every shop and deli, some bigger than your head! I’d go as far to say that you won’t ever get a bad meal here.

2. The views and beaches are to die for. The Amalfi coast is cut into the cliffs so whilst the roads are very twisty, the views that you get from up high down on the sparkly sea are breathtaking. The beaches are all pebbly meaning that the water is crystal clear. There are lots of beach clubs with serviced loungers, or plenty of public space for free too.

3. There’s so much to explore. You’ve got Naples and Pompeii an easy daytrip away along with all of the coastal towns of Sorrento, Positano, Ravello and Amalfi all built into the cliffs.

4. You can take a boat to Capri for the day and visit the blue lagoons/grottos. Which feels like a honeymoon in itself and is so old school glam wandering around the streets.

5. It’s easy to get around. You can either hire a car, use the really great public Sita buses which go along the coast or use the ferries to get around on the water. There are even water taxis, it’s all very water based out here.

6. There’s gelato on every corner and it’s basically the law to have at least one per day.

7. The floor tiles are ridiculously beautiful everywhere you go. All hand painted too.

8. Visiting Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a book cover with world famous views out over the sea.

9. It’s got that old fashioned romantic vibe with dramatic scenery, cute old Italians, beautiful buildings and classic decor. At sunset especially it’s pure magic.

10. There are teeny fiat 500s on almost every street. Enough said.

So, where should you stay?! From our first visit I’ve learned a lot about what we’ll do differently next time. We stayed in Positano before which was beautiful but not the best base to get around from. Our hotel was a teeny guest house and it lacked a pool or even a terrace area for sunny afternoons, it was a very steep 15 minute walk to the beach.

However, next time we’re excited to be staying at the beautiful Hotel Santa Caterina just outside the historic town of Amalfi which looks like the dream for honeymooners. The luxury 19th century villa hotel is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. It looks directly out over the sea with incredible views and is set over terraces in the cliffs. I love the fact that guests have private direct access to the sea. There’s a spa {to soothe tired feet after climbing all the stairs along the coast}, two restaurants {so you don’t even have to leave the hotel} and has hosted celebrities as famous as Brad & Ange. Our stay isn’t until September next year {I’d go tomorrow if our dates had worked out!} but I’m on countdown already. If you’re thinking of visiting the Amalfi Coast then I’d recommend going between May and October, avoiding August unless you want to be bustling on the beaches with the Italians all taking their holidays. I’ll of course report back next year for you but if you’re interested in learning more in the meantime then you can visit their website here. I’ll be swooning over it all Winter!

That pool area above the sea!!

It looks exactly as you’d picture on the Amalfi Coast but book in advance!

You can see more of our trip from earlier this year online here if you’re interested.

Have you been to the Amalfi Coast? Is it on your list?
