Hello and welcome to my first ever post as a SYGM bride! I’m Amber and I’m getting married to my fiancé Paul in April 2018 in New York City. It still feels crazy to say that even a year after we decided that’s where we’d say our “I do’s”. For my first post I thought I’d start at the beginning of our wedding journey…the Proposal!
Paul proposed to me in October 2016 – next week it’ll be a year to the day since we got engaged and we’ve been together for four & a half years. It’s actually his birthday on the 2nd and I’d booked for us to stay at a log cabin in Norfolk for five days. We had an amazing time in the cosy cabin (even with no phone signal or wifi) and we spent a few days going up and down the coast to seaside towns and National Trust houses and gardens. Paul was quite nervous as he thought he would want to propose on the holiday so he actually did on the second day we were there as he couldn’t keep it in any longer!
We were at Felbrigg Hall National Trust and after wandering through the house we visited the gardens which were still blossoming with Autumn flowers. I have a bit of an obsession with bees so I was taking photos on my camera for ages (much to Paul’s annoyance as he was getting nervous!) and then we went through to another part of the garden, sat on a cute bench under an arch and that’s where Paul asked me to marry him!
We’d discussed marriage and getting engaged so it didn’t come as a huge surprise but it was lovely to actually get proposed to after hinting to Paul for the last year or so ha! I’d told Paul previously how picky I would be with the ring so he decided it’s best that we chose together…perhaps not the most traditional way but I would have hated for him to choose something that I didn’t like – I cannot keep my feelings hidden on my face! We got back to the cabin and enjoyed some prosecco in the hot tub before calling our family to tell them the happy news. We stopped in Norwich on the way home from our trip to pick out my ring together and it got delivered the week after! My family own a bakery so we came home to loads of balloons on our dining room table and a bee-themed engagement cake!
As we’re getting married in New York, we are having a very intimate ceremony with just 18 guests so we’re also having a reception when we get home on the 5th May 2018 to celebrate with the rest of our friends & family.
I hope you enjoyed this post and I’m looking forward to sharing more of our wedding plans soon!
