Welcome to my first ever blog!
I’m itching to share our Marriage journey with you, which may not be the ‘traditional’ or ‘right’ way, but it’s our way.
My fiancé Mark and I have been together for over 17 years now, I know, I don’t look old enough right? I am a Dorset girl and he is from Devon. We met when I was 16 and he was 18, in our local nightclub and it was definitely love at first sight. After many happy years together we got engaged in 2009 during a skiing holiday in Austria. He had booked the penthouse suite of the chalet and not even that got me curious….
While skiing one day, we sat down in the snow together and Mark (he tells me now) had actually buried the ring in the snow and tried to encourage me to find it. I, however was far too busy moaning about how much my legs ached from skiing to cotton on to the situation. He decided not to wait any longer for me to become even more grumpy on this holiday. So that evening whilst I was sitting on the sofa in our penthouse suite, in my underwear, applying 8 hour cream to my sunburnt face, he knelt down and popped the question. It couldn’t have been less romantic, with my shiny orange face and mismatched underwear, but it’s definitely a moment I will remember forever!
So to cut a long story short, work and life overtook us and we just never got round to setting a date. It never felt like the right time and because we have both lost a parent, it just didn’t seem that important anymore. I became pregnant with our first child about a year later and George was born in 2011, 3 weeks after we bought our house in Somerset.
We had our second child, Matilda in 2014 and have been slowly renovating our home over the last 6 years. We are settled in a lovely Somerset village with a great community and now it feels like the right time. Our village pub reopened in July this year after being shut for over 2 years for complete renovation. When it opened it was so lovely, we knew we wanted to have our reception there and being opposite the church the location was perfect!
Things have moved swiftly over the last few months and everything is now in place for our wedding which is less than two weeks away! There will be plenty of children at our wedding, including our own and I couldn’t imagine it any other way.
It is important to do things your way, not the way others expect things to be done.
I hope you enjoy my future posts!
Love Delia x
