a romantic editorial in the Welsh countryside | uk wedding blog

Morning all! We are travelling to Wales for a gorgeously romantic editorial shoot amongst the breathtaking hills of Coed. I love the feel of this shoot as the couples are laughing and having fun rather than standing exceptionally stoically looking blankly in to the distance. I feel this helps reflect the feelings and emotional state of a wedding, full of smiles and tears.

If you’re planning a wedding in Wales and you’re looking for something unique and original, Coed Hills is almost certainly a venue worth looking at. As a photographer, I have the privilege of photographing in some of Wales’ most prestigious venues, but sometimes, ok most of the time, rustic and simple is so much better!

When I heard that Coed Hills were looking to expand the wedding side of their business, I immediately got in touch with the venue and asked if they’d be interested in having myself and a few other local suppliers doing a styled shoot there and to my absolute delight, they said yes!

Despite it being early May, we were lucky enough to have absolutely stunning weather for the shoot and whilst we were initially aiming for dreamy / romantic images, we had so many laughs on the day that in keeping with my natural style of photography, there’s definitely more smiling than pouting!

Coed (pronounced Coyd) is a unique Wedding venue set in over 180 acres of unspoilt ancient Woodland, lakes and beautiful summer meadows with elevated views reaching as far as the Jurassic coastline of Wales, yet a stones throw from the Welsh Capital, Cardiff.

Coed has been the leading centre for low impact living in Wales since it was established in 1997. It has hosted many international events including Art show’s and the UK Permaculture Convergence.  Coed has been internationally identified as a place for those who want to embrace an alternative way of living in harmony with nature in a sustainable environment or to explore and evolve their connection with themselves in tranquil and peaceful surroundings.

With its relaxed and informal atmosphere, it is perfect for a weekend long celebration of love and unity with family and friends, providing a blank canvas to create your own self build outdoor, festival, bohemian or fairytale style Wedding.

Here at Coed we have a licence to hold civil ceremonies in its large rustic barn or a smaller more intimate ceremony room. You could opt for a humanist ceremony which can be conducted anywhere on-site, perfect for those who dream of an outdoor wedding. If you wish to marry off-site, and use the space for your Wedding reception only, Coed can also accommodate this into your Wedding Day plans.

If your guests wish to remain at the venue for the weekend, they can rent one of the various cosy vintage caravans, yurts or station wagons dotted around the site or even set up their own camp in one of the glamping fields. Allowing them to celebrate with the newly weds then wander the candlelit paths to bed for the night or bring a blanket and sit around the large communal fire pit and watch the shooting stars with friends and family, whilst listening to the music and celebrations continue until the early hours.

Coed has open spaces and rolling meadows in abundance. These are perfect for getting back to nature, kicking off your shoes and running barefoot through the morning dew or just to disappear with your new spouse to watch the magnificent sunsets over the Vale of Glamorgan countryside. It also boasts so many photo opportunities with its very own stone circle and an impressive labyrinth cut into the grass by international artist David Goff-Eveleigh. This venue is pretty diverse yet organic by nature and perfect for a relaxed, rustic, festival or bohemian style Wedding or union.

With its green methods of living, Coed also brings nature to your table with its freshly grown certified organic fruit and vegetables grown onsite at the neighbouring Riverside Market Gardens, which are used in all the foods served by their very own caterers who are happy to discuss your Wedding food choices and breakfasts for your guests. Coed can also provide you with the perfect flowers to decorate the ceremony room, hand-picked from the gardens surrounding the venue.

Why not gather with your Bridesmaids and Bridal Party the day before the Wedding Ceremony and wander through the forest picking your own flora and fauna to decorate your Ceremony room together making it a memorable and very personal affair.

Your Wedding day has no limitations or boundaries at Coed

What a romantic location! And, of course, with golfing for family old -and new!- to bond over. My wedding took place at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin, with both golfing and Lake Michigan as amenities. It’s an awesome idea, and therefore a wonderful post!
