Coverage – full, full, and more full. For this foundation you only use a very small amount and it’s straight to super even skin – there’s no building layers of coverage required. I was expecting this to be somewhere between something like Estee Lauder Double Wear or Mac Studio Fix, and Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, but it doesn’t sit as heavily as any of these, although it covers the same, and it does smooth much more than most heavy duty bases. This has a smooth, creamy texture which sets – I’d say you have a couple of minutes to work it in before it dries and becomes unworkable.

Finish ~ It is matte, however it isn’t totally flat and it doesn’t dry with any kind of powdery finish at all. It contains light reflecting pigment which helps to give the skin some life. If you are dry skinned you’ll need to prime, and probably moisturise, and you may find as with all matte dense foundations it can highlight areas of dryness and texture. For those of you with large pores, the best way to apply any foundation is to push it on with a buffing brush, and I have to say even without a primer, this barely settled in my pores, which many foundations of this finish and coverage usually do.

Colours ~ there are 24 different colours to choose from, so a good range from porcelain through to deep. When you pump this out and first apply it looks scary and pale – but panic not, this is due to the denseness of the pigment – it soon settles down and when it warms to your skin it does oxidise slightly to become the colour you see on the colour swatch on the palette (much like Lauder Double Wear, if you are familiar with it) You can see from the first before and after above to the photo below the colour change after 20 mins of wear.

Durability – generally really good. I’ve tried this over a few days with different primers and finishers and found it wears better with powder over the top, and a mist of setting spray for true super long lasting coverage . For my skin {combination dehydrated, slightly oily } and on some days of wear I did get a little T Zone shine after a few hours and wanted to powder – there’s something about matte foundations at the mo that seems to make me oily! ~ but with a setting spray like UD All Nighter and a finishing powder I’d say you’ll comfortably get at least 12 hours from it. I wore it to the gym {yes, I’m THAT girl – but in this instance mostly for the purposes of this review!} and it survived sweat as well as not giving away any signs of how unbelievably red I get when I work out.

I think the most important thing to get this foundation right is to apply just a little – the temptation is to pile it on, especially if you are a coverage fanatic, but All Nighter is so pigment rich you just don’t need to, and it wears and sits better used more sparingly. 1 – 2 pumps I’d say is adequate for a full face. I’ve checked too, and as far as I can see it doesn’t flash back in photos, which is super impressive for such a pigment rich foundation.

To conclude…

If you are looking for something full for nights out, are looking to create a flawless even base, are oily skinned, or are looking for lasting coverage for acne, rosacea, pigmentation or similar, I’d say you can’t go wrong with UD All Nighter. Foundation technology is so advanced now that full coverage foundations are improving all the time, and I can see this becoming a go to favourite for lots of women.

  • This foundation seems very nice indeed! I really want to try it but I can get dry patches so I’ll have to have a think about it. Your review’s really thorough, thank you! 🙂 oh also, do you know much about the shade range? I use 1.0 in Naked Skin, do the shades correspond to All Nighter? Thanks! 🙂

Hi, glad you liked the post! I’ve just checked and I was told they are not the same shades as Naked Skin so best to pop in, maybe try it and get colour matched x
