Pink & Plum Valentines Date Night Makeup |UK Wedding Blog

So, following on from last week’s V-Day inspired beauty treats, here’s a Valentine’s date look which is fun, girly and great for whatever romantic evening you have planned. The beauty of these colours, especially the vibrant lip, is whilst they work really well on super fair skin like my model Flo, they’ll also work on deep and dark skin tones. Plums and pinks will really bring out green eyes, and the blue toned fuchsia lip will make teeth look pearly white too! There’s also a beautiful hair tutorial to accompany this from styling queen Flamingo Amy, which shows you to create the gorgeous Bardot inspired Beehive (even for bob length hair like this!) – a perfect soft, sexy style for date night. Make sure you take a peek here.

Here’s how to create this look.

Apply a smoothing primer such as Bare Minerals Prime Time to prepare skin for foundation, and ensure your base lasts as long as possible. Buff on thin layers of a long-lasting foundation – here I used Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in Mont Blanc, which has a fluid consistency but a full coverage. Once the product is worked into the skin and the foundation has “fused” with the skin, you can conceal any areas that you feel you need to. I used Jane Iredale Disappear Concealer in Light, a great full coverage concealer for which you only need to use a very small amount, as it’s super pigmented.

For a contour for a fair skin, I’m addicted to the Becca Lowlight Sculpting Perfector – it has no warmth (ie. red tones), and a very ashy tone, so is perfect for sculpting without adding warmth. I applied this in a “3” shape around Flo’s temples, into the hollows of her cheeks and under her chin with a concealer brush, and then blended and buffed with my foundation brush until any harsh lines had disappeared.

Apply a soft fluid blusher such as Daniel Sandler’s beautiful Watercolour Blush in Cherub ~ a dainty pastel pink which is gorgeous on fair and light skin tones. Set with a super fine finishing powder to increase wear and prevent shine – Bare Minerals Mineral Veil is perfect as it’s talc free, non drying and invisible on the skin.

For the eyes begin by applying an eye primer – here I’ve used Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eyeshadow Base to increase wear, prevent creasing and make colours as true as possible on the eyelid. Using a plum palette such as the Illamasqua Complement Palette, apply your lightest shadow up to the brow and on the inner half of the eyelid, and then work a medium colour onto the outer half. Using a blending brush, apply your darkest shade into the socked and a little under the lash line too. I used the Maybelline Lasting Gel Liner in Blackest Black to apply a winged liquid line, which elongates the eye for a cat-eye effect, and finished with lots of black mascara, and delicate Tanya Burr lashes in Date Night. Remember to keep eyes defined but soft – with such a strong colour on the lips we need to make sure we have balance!

Time for our statement lip! This is actually super simple – after lining the lips with Nars Costa Smelrada, I used OCC Lip Tar in Strumpet with a lip brush. Lip Tars are literally the most high shine, full pigment glosses I’ve ever used – they are a very cool product for those of you who love full pigment colour. I’d definitely recommend using a nice pointed lip brush to apply, to get a nice sharp lip line – plus a little product goes a long way!

To finish the look, Flamingo Amy created a beautiful, relaxed Bardot style beehive, with plenty of soft volume for a real undone, feminine style. Overall I’d say this look is kind of a take on Mad Men style, especially with the amazing colour of Flo’s hair!

I hope you love this look ~ don’t forget to let me know if there’s any makeup or hair looks you’d like to see in future posts!
