When Mike and I got engaged at the beginning of December, I was ecstatic. He proposed in Reykjavik, Iceland having surprised me a couple of days before with plane tickets for my birthday (I know, I’m a lucky gal), along with a Blue Lagoon trip and a meal at an amazing restaurant. I was so excited that by the time we’d got back home to the UK I’d planned pretty much everything (we had free WiFi on the plane – I couldn’t resist!).
Mike and I first met at school aged 11. We went to the same high school together and grew up living right by each other. For the next 12 years we had an on/off relationship due to growing up, going to university etc. (the usual growing up stuff) until 4 years ago when we decided we were on ‘for good’. Now we live in Manchester with our pampered and much-loved pooch Maxxy.
Like most girls, I had a hidden Pinterest board but I’d never actually thought in depth about planning a wedding. So when we got engaged I went into overdrive, putting everything I hadn’t realised I’d even thought about into action, and using my planning skills wherever possible (what can I say, girl loves a list).
I now have more than one Pinterest board and have been pinning like crazy. I have visions of white fabric, candles and foliage but as it’s quite a DIY wedding, I’ll be roping in my parents, bridesmaids and friends to help with all the prep so wish us luck!
Despite the title of this post, I don’t think I’ve quite reached ‘Bridezilla’ levels yet (I hope!). I would categorise myself as an ‘organised bride’ at this stage…or a controlling one (sorry mum!). Either way, I’m so far enjoying the planning process and am looking forward to sharing my experience with the readers of So You’re Getting Married, for better or for worse (ha).
I love to post on Instagram as well so should you want to follow my wedding planning journey on there, you can find me @hollywoodcock.
So far we’ve secured the venue, registrar, photographer and videographer…but more on those in my next posts.
