Introducing Chapel House, Penzance | UK WEDDING BLOG

Round two of our Cornish getaway and I couldn’t wait to share the photos from Chapel House in Penzance, a brand new boutique hotel {The Times recently named it Cornwall’s best new hotel} that would be perfect to hire as a wedding venue or for a girl’s pre-wedding getaway or just come and stay for a romantic night away overlooking the sea.

It’s one of those rare places that really feels like home for a few days rather than a hotel. Chapel House brings a whole new meaning to the phrase boutique hotel, Susan runs {and lives} in Chapel House and really cannot do enough for you. But not in an overbearing kind of way. She bought the house three years ago and has spent a lot of effort restoring it to create a chic beautiful hotel, that retains all of the period features, which opened in May this year. There are six bedrooms, all of exceptional quality, some have four poster beds, nearly all have big bath tubs, views out over Penzance harbour, smart TVs and posh toiletries. Some have beams and original window shutters, others are more modern. Our room had a cosy log-burner for chilly evenings! And every room comes with an iPad for you to use during your stay with a guide of the local area on and it’s even programmed in with Face-time to the kitchen so you can order up some snacks or drinks if you’re feeling too lazy to head down to the basement kitchen! The three bedrooms on the top floor can be closed off as a separate apartment if you wanted to rent half the house with friends or family. It’s adult chic but also very child friendly and they will allow well-behaved dogs in most circumstances too.

You can see from the photos just how gorgeous this place is, I want Susan to come and redesign our house now. The grand staircase in particular was a favourite and all the white washed floors. There are fresh flowers all over the house, I loved the fennel display and views from almost every window out onto the boats bobbing around, St Michael’s Mount and the fields beyond.

It almost feels a shame to call this a posh B&B as it offers so much more than that. Susan will cook you dinner if you don’t want to go out, she’s an incredible cook! Just place your order the day before and she’ll go out to buy everything fresh. We had fresh fish and a blackberry crumble for dinner and then an autumn fruit salad the next morning followed by eggs and avocado. Dinners and breakfasts are served in the basement with an open-plan kitchen or in the garden if the weather is kind. Outside normal meal times, the kitchen and dining room are open to house guests and well stocked with complimentary tea, coffee and cake to help yourself to.  Nothing is too much trouble, you’re encouraged to treat Chapel House as your home for the stay and I was impressed with the well-stocked boot room if you’ve forgotten anything you can borrow spare jackets, gloves and even wellies along with your toothbrushes etc. It’s little touches like that which really make a difference.

Wedding wise, this would be a perfect place to come and take over for a long weekend. Susan is about to get her licence for ceremonies, the grand drawing rooms would make a great backdrop. There is also a church less than 100m from the front door and Susan would then provide all the catering and drinks. The garden would be ideal for a drinks and canapé reception. It’s a space that you could personalise and make work for you. There will be no traditional wedding packages offered as every wedding should be different and can be adapted for your needs and numbers. I love this ethos. As Phoebe said on one of the photos we posted on Instagram last week, can you imagine the photos getting ready in those rooms?! And walking down that staircase {!!}. In addition, it would also make a fantastic house to rent for a girl’s posh hen party. You could get the sleeper train down from London and then have a weekend by the sea with Susan cooking for you and arranging fun activities or spa treatments for you all. Likewise for your Groom’s stag party {with a difference} they could go sailing for the day before a casino evening in the basement?! Whatever the occasion, you are sure to be looked after and have your requests taken care of.

Penzance itself is a historic port and has one of the mildest climates in the UK, there are tropical palm trees in half of the gardens! I loved the independent shops and old streets. There is so much to see and do around here, Mousehole was another favourite and one of the prettiest Cornish fishing villages, as well as St Michael’s Mount and the Minack open-air theatre set into the cliffs over the sea. There’s also the Jubilee Pool – one of the world’s top ten outdoor swimming sites as well as coast paths and beaches galore.

Cornwall is the cutest! And Chapel House a fabulous find.

{I was a guest of Chapel House PZ but as always I would never ever promote something that I didn’t truly love. All opinions are my own.}
