So a couple of weeks ago, I posted about planning your wedding with the wonderful Blue Door Barns Events Team and today I’d love to share with you their dreamy boutique bed and breakfast just outside of Lewes in East Sussex. Blue Door Barns itself is a cluster of exquisitely decorated barns and stables around a magical, courtyard garden which can be booked individually or exclusively by up to 12 people.

The term bed and breakfast almost seems unfair to label Blue Door Barns with as it really is so much more than that. How many bed and breakfasts have a courtyard with twinkly lights that looks like something straight out of Pinterest? Provides Ren toiletries or has an option to book in for spa treatments with a top facial therapist?

You really will be in for a treat if you stay and you can choose from 4 different barns, two of which have kitchens. It would be great to rent all of them with a group of friends, a hen party perhaps? The blue door team can arrange a big dinner for you all and organise activities to keep you entertained. In the summer they light the fire outside so you can sit out until it’s dark. But equally in the winter it’s perfect to cosy up and it’s an ideal destination for a romantic mini-moon or getaway right in the countryside.

There’s the Nook {which we stayed in}, the Sailors House with a cute stable door, the Little Lodge which is self catering and The Lodge with a big open plan space for living and cooking. The self-catering barns would be perfect for families to stay in or a couple of couples sharing.

I loved all the little quirky touches around the place, herbs planted in old Pepsi crates, Hendricks Gin signs on the walls, old cricket posters, Bryony really has an eye for detail.

If you read the post about the events side of their business then you’ll see that the team can pretty much make anything possible. So if you did have a group of girls with you for a hen party or had something to celebrate then you can guarantee that the team will be able to sort something special out for you. And this courtyard is the perfect setting. If it’s bad weather then you can use the main house or venues nearby. If you’re getting married with the events team then your whole wedding party could stay here and the team could lay on a pre-wedding dinner for you all or host a big breakfast the next day!

As for exploring the surrounding area, we drove down and had the morning to explore before our stay. My brother goes to Brighton university just along the coast where we regularly visit but we hadn’t ventured further around. Lewes itself is a beautiful old town set amongst the South Downs. Strolling down the old high street {which is full of the prettiest and some of the oldest buildings in England} there are views across to miles of fields and rolling hills. The coast is only a fifteen minute drive too, unfortunately it rained constantly while we were there otherwise we would have gone to the beach! Birling Gap is worth a visit though whatever the weather and Emma and Bryony at Blue Door Barns can recommend some secret bays for you to walk to or explore. There are chocolate box villages to see too, and the area is heaven for foodies. Firle and Alfriston Village are picture perfect. We had a yummy lunch at the Ram Inn in Firle which I’d definitely recommend. As is the South Downs way walking trail. But the lovely ladies really are great and can recommend everything and anything to you. Brighton is always a great place to visit too.

After the best nights sleep I’d had in ages, and time to properly unwind after the rain *forced us* to stay in, we were excited for breakfast the next morning and wandered over to the main house past the corn fields.

Bryony shops for fresh ingredients and then cooks everything fresh that morning for you while you relax and read the papers in their impressive drawing room full of vintage treasure! She used to be an interior designer and has travelled around France collecting interesting pieces to decorate the barns with. Being a vintage lover myself, often trailing around junk shops or markets, this was my idea of heaven.

The food was super yummy, I had dippy eggs with asparagus and buttery fresh toast. Ben had a smoked salmon and spinach toasted bagel. But you could choose from berry pancakes, homemade granola or a full English. The menu changes seasonally.
