I would love to share with you a beautiful wedding venue, and luxury boutique hotel, in North Devon today that I was kindly invited to stay at last week. I really love Devon and Cornwall, such a beautiful parts of the UK to explore. There are miles of countryside and some of the best coastline in England, plus the best cream teas are available everywhere! Kentisbury Grange would be the perfect base for you to get married in this beautiful part of the world or to explore from as a minimoon. If you like roll top baths, fluffy dressing gowns, Molton Brown toiletries, good food, beautiful countryside and the seaside then I think you’re going to like this place a lot…

The hotel itself is a restored, Grade II listed Victorian manor house with landscaped grounds. It only opened last Springtime and the refurbishment has been elegantly designed by interior designer Karen Gray. There are sixteen bedrooms in total, some of them suites and some self-contained lodges set in the grounds. Every last detail has been thought about from dressing the big windows with designer fabrics to special mood lighting in the bathrooms at night.

We spent the afternoon relaxing at the hotel, it was a drizzly day when we visited but had been for a walk at Croyde beach, a few miles away, that morning. Then it was dinner time which was a real treat, followed by a soak in the bath and a deep, deep sleep in our comfy bed. Hotel beds are always so heavenly aren’t they? Why is that??

I really loved the bathrooms. They’re all classically Victorian but with a modern twist I feel.

It almost felt like you were staying in somebody’s private home compared to a hotel. It’s small and intimate, perfect to hire out for a wedding party.

The food is another main draw with an award winning restaurant The Coach House by Michael Caines. It specialises in fine dining, our dinner was incredible. But the cookies left in our room were equally delicious!

All the catering for weddings and events is taken care of by The Coach House. Imagine serving your guests food from inspired by one of the country’s top chefs. We really need to get away from mass produced wedding catering that nobody enjoys. The Coach House will create exciting menus for you and your guests.

The luxury boutique hotel is near the old market town of Barnstaple and close to the stunning beaches of North Devon like Woolacombe which has just been crowned Britain’s top beach. The hotel is set on the edge of Exmoor National Park with miles of romantic moorland to walk or drive around. The location is amazing and yet only 3 and a half hours from London. A perfect base for a weekend away.

We could see lambs from our bed, there’s miles and miles of countryside around and you’re only 15 minutes from the coast.

It would be perfect for a wedding and is one of Devon’s most enchanting destinations. There is a full wedding coordination team that offer a complete wedding planning service. You can choose from three ceremony spaces, The Hotel Lounge, The Restaurant Mezzanine or, weather permitting, outside by the lake. For reception space there is the Coach House Restaurant and/or a marquee can be put up which is surrounded by countryside. There were lambs right next to the marquee space when we visited last week!

Prices are highly competitive too. For 70 guests, including full use of:

  • The Luxurious Bridal Suite for the night before and evening of the wedding.
  • All 15 bedrooms on a bed and breakfast basis
  • The Coach House Restaurant
  • Use of gardens and grounds for photos
  • Arrival drink for guests
  • A selection of canapés – three per person
  • Three course wedding breakfast from The award winning Coach House Restaurant
  • Half a bottle of wine per person
  • A glass of house Champagne for the toast
  • Evening buffet
  • A stunning marquee with full lining, dance floor, wooden floor with choice of carpet colour, tables, chairs and equipment.

The final cost would be dependent on menu and beverage choices but the above package for 70 guests would work out at approximately £14,000 for 2015/2016 which is fantastic value for money given the beautiful setting.

If you were thinking of getting married here, by mentioning So You’re Getting Married on booking any wedding through to the end of 2016 you can have complimentary arrival drinks.

A true gem of a country hotel – a chic retreat, romantic getaway and luxury country escape all rolled into one! What do you think?

You can find more out on their website – Kentisbury Grange.
