So you may have seen glitter lips before in via Instagram. Well now I’m going to show you how to do them, in a mess free, non sticky, easy way.

I have used red in this tutorial, but you can use any colour you wish. For other colours I suggest using a similar colour lip liner to the glitter or failing that white/ neutral.

Start by prepping the skin with your usual foundation/ concealer routine. Cover your lips lightly with foundation to ‘prime’ them. This will help the lip liner stick to your lips. I’m using Clarins Illusion Foundation in 107 and a No7 Foundation brush.

Next is to line your lips, use feather strokes, starting from the centre and work your way out. I’m using Marks and Spencer’s Autograph pencil in Red. You may notice my lips look a bit odd, they’re stretched out! This is really important to maximise the intensity and stay power of the products we’re using.

So line and fill the entire lip as the glitter and gel needs something to stick to. It’s super important to use feather strokes and to really take your time, the red is hard to disguise if you go over your lip line.

So now your lips are filled in to perfection you need to ‘gloss them’ with glitter gel. I’m using Kryolan Glitter Gel in clear. This has got to be the best in glitter gels I have ever used. It’s not too sticky, dries very quickly and is super easy to use in consistency. It also comes straight off with a water massage.

I’m applying a thin layer with an angled brush as I find it easier to accentuate my lips with the angled bristles. I’m using an Eco Tools Fine Angled Brush.

Next is glitter time! Open up your glitter very carefully. I’m using Stardust Glitter in Red, it’s super fine which is exactly what you want. Don’t dunk the brush straight into the main pot, you’ll end up with a right mess and glitter everywhere. You should be fine to take the excess off the lid, if the excess from the lid isn’t enough dab your dry lip brush into the glitter and tap into the lid to use from there.

Pad the glitter onto your lips with a lip brush. I’m using one by Models Own but you can use those by Crown or similar. For less seasoned glitter applicators you may want to lean over so it doesn’t end up in your teeth/ on your chin!

Now you’re done with the top lip repeat the gel- glitter process with the bottom lip. It’s important to do one lip at a time so you have enough time to work with each of them. The gel dries quite quickly so you want to do a good job of each without your lips not being sticky enough to attach the glitter to.
