Morning!! How was your weekend? I still feel a little ill from last week but much better, I can actually stand to be on my laptop for longer than an hour. I finally managed to get up all of the Christmas decorations around the house (there will be a little vlog later as part of #sygmChristmas) and I finally got to enjoy some food!
Are you ready to channel your inner sugar plum fairy? Ah this shoot is so unbelievable perfect for this time of year. I love Jemma-Jade’s modern interpretation of The Nutcracker. Gold and blush are an all time favourite colour combination of mine. The Ian Stuart dress chosen is perfect for this…and as for that cake! Plus Kate’s daughter Julia makes the cutest Clara. If you scroll to the end there is a beautiful video.
A little note from Kate Nielen
I still remember our gorgeous winter wedding as if it was yesterday. The day was frosty and bright with the golden light that only ever appears out of nowhere on a winter day. The setting was the gorgeous Carlton Club.
We have been back many times for various events as members do, but never again for a wedding… a few months ago I got this idea in my head to recreate a winter wedding setup at the Club. I discussed the idea in the detail with the lovely Frances Edwards – the event manager at the Club. Imagine my joy when the Club agreed to host the first ever styled shoot there!!
I knew the Jemma-Jade William of Jemma-Jade Events would be perfect to create something very special there. We talked and the rest is history. This shoot is also very special to me on another level… My young daughter Julia is the star of the show impersonating Clara in the Nutcracker dream… Enjoy!
From Jemma-Jade William (stylist)
When Kate Nielen approached me about holding a shoot at the exclusive members club The Carlton Club, I jumped at the chance as I know the venue for its English charm and gorgeous setting.
The Nutcracker has been a favourite story of mine since I was little, I just loved the magic that surrounded it. Therefore I thought with the run up to Christmas it would be a lovely idea to replicate that theme in a shoot, as there were such beautiful colours and details used.
With the table decor we decided it would be a lovely idea to use The Carlton Club crockery as its significant to the way the house entertains. The blue’s in it matched perfectly with the centrepieces designed by Okishima & Simmonds, a talented florist duo based in Fulham. We thought we would have a bit of fun with the table decor by adding some pink baubles, making a playful setting and adding to that Christmas feel.
The gorgeous bespoke calligraphy stationary was created especially for this shoot by our favourite Lamplighter London.
We were spoilt for choice when it came to desserts, with Elizabeth from Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium creating bespoke floral cupcakes and my personal favourite- cupcakes with ballet slippers. She also had an array of gorgeous wedding cakes and a macaron tower which was as delicious as it looked. We of course had to include a Nutcracker from the amazing Amara gift list registry who have a list of gorgeous things for a couple to choose from for their big day. This Alessi Scoiattolo Nutcracker is fun and practical featuring a squirrel design where the handle is the squirrel’s tail. Made from mirror polished 18/10 stainless steel and wood this nutcracker is the stylish way to dine.
Harriet Wilde provided her signature floral heels which finished the look of the bride wearing 2 beautiful dresses by Ian Stuart. The first look was playful, girly and princess like with a cascading pink dress and a loose up do by the amazing Tori Harris, and rosy cheeks and a soft complexion by Pamela & Andrea Make up. The second look was more sophisticated and elegant- think Grace Kelly with a creamy/ivory Ian Stuart dress, pinned back hair with a bun and sultry make up.
To ensure we captured the essence of the Nutcracker, we had Kate’s beautiful daughter modelling in the ever so adorable Little Bevan frocks. All this was captured by the seamless Urban Cinematography who’s film you can feast your eyes on below. Thank you to my gorgeous friend Charlotte-Elizabeth for dedicating one of her Sundays to model as a beautiful bride to be.
