We have skipped a few months and landed in the warming glow of autumn. I have said before that it is one of my favourite times of the year (without wanting to wish my year away) and one of the reasons for this is the palette that mother nature supplies us with. Sarah and Adam definitely make the most of the season with pumpkins, chinese lanterns, pine-cones and lots of tealights. If you are having an Autumn wedding then this is definitely a place to start!
Photography by Jules Fortune
Venue: Church – Our Lady’s and St Michael’s, Alston Lane, Longridge, Lancashire. My dad is buried here, so it was special to get married there (and emotional).
We knew it was the right venue for us as soon as stepped into the barn. We live in Newcastle but I’m from Lancashire so we wanted to get married there. We had a weekend packed full of visiting potential venues, Browsholme Hall was the last one we saw and it was no contest compared to al the other venues. We loved the blank canvas of the barn, the flexibility of the owners to allow us to make our day unique, and the gorgeous setting.
Wedding photographer – Jules Fortune. We found Jules by looking at previous wedding photographers work at Browsholme Hall and at wedding around Lancashire on the internet. We loved her relaxed, informal feel that we got from the photos and the finishes she adds to the photos. We met with her over a cup of tea, and got on really well. So the decision to have Jules as our photographer was easy. We are so happy with all the images, and lots of guests commented on how approachable and great she was on the day.
Flowers – Ashston Flower Shop, 22 Woodplumpton Rd, Preston, Lancashire. www.ashtonflowershop.com
This florists is close to my mums house. Bev took our ideas on board, and was great in emailing me lots of ideas and flower examples. I loved my autumnal bouquet and the table décor looked stunning in the barn, and fitted in perfectly with our autumnal theme with the uses of baby pumpkins and squashes, and Chinese lanterns.
Kath at the white Tulip is one of my friends mum. I’d been to a few wedding dress shops but never found anything that grabbed me, and didn’t find it to be the magical experience I expected. When I saw Kath that all changed, she made me feel special and was great in her advice and the dress selection was perfect, not too many to be overwhelmed but a great variety. She made the experience lovely and exiting. I was torn between two dresses in the end and decided to go with the San Patrick as I loved the lace and it felt so light and comfortable to wear. Looking back the photos it was definitely the right choice.
Shoes – Nine West. I got some fabulous gold glittery shoes from Nine West. Amazingly I lasted all day in them, and danced the night away!
Bride’s hair accessories/veil – Veil – the veil was my something borrowed. My friend Nicola let me borrow it. I originally wanted a birdcage veil, but fell in love with the whole look of outfit with the dress and long veil together. Judith Herbert who did my hair and make up also made me a small lace and pearl head peice to wear with the veil.
Bride’s hair /makeup – Judith Herbert; www.makeupbyjudith.com – My mum came across Judith at a wedding fair at Browsholme. I liked her natural look to the make-up, as I wanted to feel like me on the day.
Bridesmaids’/dresses/shoes/accessories – Dresses – Phase Eight.
I wanted something that suit all the girls. Each one of my bridesmaids lives in a different city so I was unable to get them all together to try them on before buying them, but I went with my gut instinct, and I think they all looked gorgeous.
Shoes – they all wore their own shoes. I wanted them to be comfy.
Groom’s outfit/accessories/shoes – Suit – TM Lewin
Adam wanted a modern smart looking suit. TM Lewin were great in helping us choose the right suit for Adam and making it fit perfectly. He got his pocket hanky from Next and Tie from Topman.
Groomsmen’s outfits/accessories – Suits – Burton.
Burton were great in helping us order all the right suits we needed and getting them to us on time. The service was excellent and they were really good value, compared to hiring the suits. And it means they’ve all got something to keep from the day.
Cake – Cake Originals by Karen, Longridge, Lancashire – 07973551716
Karen is a friend of a friend. She allowed us to create our own wedding cake to fit in with our day. The effort she put in was amazing; her husband making us a cake stand out of a tree trunk, contacting the florist to have some flowers on the cake for décor, and sourcing hessian ribbon from American to go around the cake! It looked stunning on the day, and was delicious. We had carrot cake on the bottom tier and Victoria sponge at the top.
DJ/entertainment – Dance Floor Couture; http://www.dancefloorcouture.co.uk
We were initially sceptical about hiring a wedding DJ, but dance floor couture get rid of all wedding DJ clichés. We had Adam there for the reception all the way through to the evening, he was great. He worked with Rebecca at Browsholme to help make the day run smoothly. We sent a link to all guests so they could request any songs they wanted to dance to before the day. The dance floor was packed all night.
Stationery – Adam’s mum Gaynor handmade all our save the dates, invites, and menu’s, they looked lovely. She used lots of eat of india ribbon and stamps, and wooden hearts to fit in with the rustic feel of the day. We also used brown luggage tags for the place names, and I got our table plan printed on luggage labels too from; binkywatson.com that I hanged onto braches with fairy lights.
Décor/wedding details – We went for an autumnal theme for the day, due to the time of year and the countryside setting. So we had lots of golds, oranges, browns, and greens. It all came together lovely. In the month upto wedding we went out sourcing pine cones and acorns from a local forest, and the day before the wedding we spent carving out 20 pumpkins, but it was worth the effort!
Catering/food/drink – With A Twist – www.withatwistcatering.co.uk
Browsholme Hall lets you select all your own suppliers, we went with With A Twist for our catering. They designed our wedding menu around us and our ideas, which helped make the day even more unique to us.
We had butternut squash soup with parsnip crisps to start, followed by belly pork with black pudding, and apple crumble cheesecake fir desert with a mini toffee apple.
In the evening we had roasted shoulder of upholland pork done on the BBQ in the court yard, served on barm cakes with stuffing and apple sauce.
Wedding favours – We had toffee apples to fit in with autumnal theme. They were soon eaten up!
Honeymoon Destination – We had a week relaxing in Morocco.
