Mother Mae I? | uk wedding blog

I contacted Johanna Hehir a while ago to feature on the blog. After some emails with her and her lovely team I can quite safely say I fell in love. Not only with her beautiful designs but with the whole essence of her company. She is exceptionally polite, welcoming and you can tell that she cares about every single bride that may wear one of her dresses. I received an invite to the launch of her new Mae collection which was taking place in London town, not most practical for moi so I send my resident London correspondent Nim. Her new designs are just exquisite and I too have fallen in love with Esme.

On Wednesday night, Jenny (my partner in bridal crime) accompanied me to the launch of Mae by Johanna Hehir at her flagship studio on Chiltern Street. Chiltern Street is one of my new favourite places and the go to place for proper window shopping – beautifully crafted luxury wedding gowns and accessories in every window.

We were warmly invited to view Mae whilst sipping on pink bubbles and eating delicious treats by Crumbs Couture Cupcakes.  The new collection really does have it all – style, elegance, luxurious materials, exquisite Johanna Hehir tailoring and value for money – retailing between £1,000 and £1,500.  For me, the back of the dresses stole the show – no guest can complain of a boring view whilst watching the bride and groom say their vows.

My favourite was Esme – the vintage inspired lace and 1940s style buttons did it for me!

Jenny’s took an even bigger shine to Ella – the cowl neck and bow backed is amazing – a real show stopper.

The leading lady herself,Johanna, came to speak to us as we were closely examining the dress wondering what brassiere to wear with the dress. The answer was commando (or whatever the b00bie equivalent is) or those sticky cup things.  Johanna assured us that back was cut so it would adequately hold in your modesty. Phew.

It is clear that Johanna really cares about the small details and her brides.  I think this is wonderful.

The launch also showcased some other beautiful suppliers (see credits below).  I particularly loved Rose and Aster‘s new Ingenue collection…see official photos on her site.

Victoria Mary Vintage‘s divine hair pieces, and Poppy Children‘s fabulous little girls dresses.

We all left with a lovely Alphabet Bags personalised goody bag – I knew Phoebe would be jealous!

Sarah – I really loved your display – Ingenue is a really special collection.

Esme is so nice! I wish I had the nerve to try it on but I really can’t since I do already have a dress.

Jenny and I were both a wee bit sad that we’re super organised and have our dresses already sorted out for our weddings.
